- MediaUMNO |
Anwar Must Be Found Guilty Of Sodomy Charge – Appeal Court Told Posted: 06 Mar 2014 03:11 AM PST KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must be found guilty of sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan as the evidence produced in court was overwhelming, the Court of Appeal was told today. Lead prosecutor Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said the court should have allowed the prosecution’s appeal over Anwar’s acquittal and this was one case which the court would find difficult to resist. He submitted that Anwar when called to enter his defence by the High Court on the sodomy charge, had chosen to give his unsworn statement from the dock. “Anwar did not dare to give his evidence in the witness box but hide behind the dock to attack the government, judge, and deputy public prosecutors,” he said. Muhammad Shafee described Anwar’s statement from the dock as crafted in a devious manner which the trial judge had failed to consider. “Anwar never produced an alibi of defence when confronted with video clippings of CCTV at the condominium,” he submitted before Justice Datuk Balia Yusof Wahi who led Justice Datuk Aziah Ali and Justice Datuk Mohd Zawawi Salleh in the court of appeal panel. The prosecution is appealing against the Jan 9, 2012 High Court decision which acquitted and discharge Anwar of sodomising Mohd Saiful, 26, at a Desa Damansara condominium unit in Bukit Damansara between 3.10 pm and 4.30 pm on June 26, 2008. High Court Judge Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah in acquitting Anwar, ruled that the court could not be 100 per cent certain on the integrity of samples taken for DNA testing from Mohd Saiful as the samples could have been compromised before they reached the chemistry department for analysis. Muhammad Shafee further said that when the defence was shown the CCTV video clippings during the trial, they had dropped the entire alibi of defence. He also referred to the CCTV which recorded the arrival and departure of Mohd Saiful and Anwar at the condominum. Although Anwar denied committing the offence, he did not deny being at the scene, he said. On other issues, Muhammad Shafee said the trial judge had misconstrued the 11 items which were packed individually containing the DNA amples as having been tampered with. Muhammad Shafee said there were corroborative evidence from three witnesses that the swabs taken from the alleged victim’s high rectal region and low rectal region were put in the container, sealed and handed to investigating officer Supt Jude Balcious Pereira who handed it to chemist Dr Seah Lay Hong for analysis. The lead prosecutor said there was no conspiracy between Jude and the chemist to tamper with the DNA samples and no possibilities for Jude to get the respondent’s sperm (Anwar) on his own. “Where will Jude get the respondent’s sperm? Even an ordinary person would protect their semen, what more a dignitary who is claiming that the whole word is conspiring against him,” pointed out Muhammad Shafee. He said there was no evidence of tampering as the seal on the receptacles remained intact despite being placed in envelopes by Jude. Muhammad Shafee also argued that the credibility of the defence’s foreign experts was questionable as their evidence were based on textbooks and manuals while the local experts had analysed Mohd Saiful’s DNA samples. Meanwhile, Anwar’s counsel Karpal Singh objected to Muhammad Shafee’s remarks, saying that the accused had a choice to conduct his defence either from the dock, witness box or to remain silent. “This is a substantive right of the accused person and Anwar chose his right to make his defence from the dock and the prosecution should not be allowed to make any remarks to poison the mind of the court,” said Karpal. He further submitted that the court should not disturb the findings of the trial judge which were based on expert evidence. Co-counsel Ram Karpal Singh had submitted that the court should have dismissed the appeal as expert witnesses had testified that the samples were contaminated. The hearing continues tomorrow. |
Government Issues Letters To Those Who Have Not Received BR1M Posted: 06 Mar 2014 03:07 AM PST PUTRAJAYA, 6 Mac – The letter containing the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) 3.0 have been sent to those who have not received through their banks, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said. He said among those who have not received their BR1M payments were those who have not updated their personal information, whose identity card numbers were not the same as in the bank accounts, and those deemed not eligible based on their monthly incomes. Speaking to reporters after launching the MyResults applications at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here today, Ahmad Husni said those who failed to get the BR1M could appeal through the Internal Revenue Board (LHDN)website at www.hasil.gov.my or go to the nearest LHDN office. He said the application, which is in line with the Outcome-Based Budget (OBB) and would be used in all ministries by 2016, would integrate the development and operations expenditure to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in each ministry. The OBB, the brainchild of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, would also solve the problem of overlapping of projects and programmes between government departments and agencies, as well as ensure that resources are distributed according to the nation’s priorities. To date, three ministries – the Finance Ministry, the International Trade and Industry Ministry, and the Health Ministry – have already used the application while other ministries will do so in stages. |
Malaysia Seeks Additional Quota Of 10,000 Pilgrims Posted: 06 Mar 2014 02:32 AM PST SEPANG, March 6 – Lembaga Tabung Haji has sought an additional quota of 10,000 pilgrims for this year’s pilgrimage, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom. He said the request was made by Tabung Haji at a meeting with the Saudi government over this year’s haj preparations, recently. “If the Saudi government cannot accommodate our request, it is suffice that they revert to the original quota of 27,900 pilgrims,” he told reporters upon arrival from Saudi Arabia at the KL International Airport here today. The Saudi government reduced the Malaysian haj quota by 20 per cent to 22,320 pilgrims last year due to massive construction of the holy cities of Medina and Makkah, including the expansion of the Grand Mosque. The reduction of haj quota is expected to continue until the completion of the projects in 2016. Meanwhile, Jamil Khir said the Saudi government would introduce ‘E-Haji’, an online application for haj visas. As for now, umrah (small haj) visa applications can be made online, he added. On umrah quota for the fasting month of Ramadan, he said the Saudi government had fixed the quota at 500,000 pilgrims and each country could only sent one group at a time. “For example, if we were to send a group of 1,000 umrah pilgrims at one time, they should come back before the arrivals of other groups. “So, I would like to advise Malaysian umrah pilgrims to shorten their umrah to allow others the opportunity to perform theirs,” he said. Jamil Khir said the Saudi government had categorised 21 Malaysian pilgrims from last season pilgrimage as those who failed to return home after the pilgrimage. “In my opinion, they might have come back or died, but the Saudi system did not register them as such. We will get Tabung Haji to verify this by going through the haj list,” he added. |
-MediaUMNO |
Rationalisation Of Subsidies For The People’s Wellbeing – Azizah Posted: 06 Mar 2014 01:04 AM PST KUALA PENYU, March 6 – The cut in subsidies for fuel and other goods via the rationalisation exercise enables the government to implement programmes for the people’s wellbeing. Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said the programme include the provision of 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) to the deserving. “Savings from the cut in subsidies are not only for BR1M but also development programmes to upgrade roads, build concrete bridges, repair roads and build houses in kampungs and repair school buildings,” she said when presenting BR1M vouchers to 1,706 recipients, here today. The subsidy rationalisation was correct as it boosted the economy and allowed the government to increase the allocations under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP). Azizah said it was untrue to say that the government was wasting the people’s money because all the revenue collected was spent for their benefit. Ali Ebnoh,67, a BR1M recipient from Kampung Sangkabok said he will deposit the money into his Tabung Haji account. “I had received BR1M before and am very grateful for the aid,” he added. Aloi Marka,55, from Kampung Menunggang said with the BR1M aid, he could purchase the basic necessities for the home. |
Mahu Hilangkan Deposit Calon BN… “Cuma sedikit pesananlah…tunggulah hari pengundian nanti kita tengok macammana. “Nampaknya itulah senario sebenar. -MediaUMNO |
SPDP Buries Three-Year Feud To Accept Sacked Four Posted: 06 Mar 2014 12:54 AM PST KUCHING, March 6 – The Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) ended three years of feud with its four former senior members that it sacked for insubordination by accepting them back today. State assemblymen for Tasik Biru, Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran (Marudi), Rosey Yunus (Bekenu) and Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau) were reinstated as members of SPDP with immediate effect, said Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem. Adenan, who had been instrumental to see the readmission of the four back into the party, said their return was historical and should come as a positive step and a good news for the Barisan Nasional (BN). “They will just be ordinary members of SPDP. But come the next (SPDP) triennial delegates conference, they can contest (for positions in the party),” Adenan, who is also Sarawak BN chairman, told a press conference here. Earlier, he received a courtesy call from the SPDP Supreme Council led by their president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom. Prior to being sacked from the party between 2011 and 2012, Nansian was a SPDP senior vice-president, with Entri and Rosey as vice-presidents and Paulus as assistant information chief. Adenan also refused to commit himself on whether the four would be nominated again to contest in their present constituencies in the next state election due in 2016 by saying: “We will cross the bridge once we reach it.” Meanwhile, Mawan said former Mas Gading Member of Parliament, Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe who was sacked together with the four could not be reinstated immediately as the latter had contested against BN in the 13th general election. However, he said Dr Tiki could submit his application separately to rejoin the party. Dr Tiki, who was apparently disappointed for not being re-nominated to defend the Mas Gading seat, lost to BN newcomer Anthony Nogeh Gumbek in last year’s election. |
Deputy IGP Hits Out At Seberang Jaya MP Posted: 05 Mar 2014 08:45 PM PST KUCHING, March 6 - Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin today lashed out at the Member of Parliament for Seberang Jaya, Dr Afif Bahardin for his statement and described him as being inhumane. Dr Afif, in his facebook statement had written “criminal killing a policeman is not surprising, but when the police who are supposed to uphold the law kill a detainee, that’s a problem…” “Such a statement should not have been made by an elected representative. He is not fit to be an elected representative,” Mohd Bakri said at a media conference after the official opening of the Tabuan Jaya Police Station, here today. Mohd Bakri said that by raising up such issues, it appeared as though the services provided by policemen were not appreciated. Dr Afif’s statement concerned the death of Corporal Raja Aizam Raja Mohet, 54, and the injury sustained by his colleague from a patrol car unit following an attack by two men, believed to be Indonesian nationals, in an incident at Taman Sentosa, Klang early Tuesday morning. In the incident at about 4.30am on Tuesday, two police personnel were believed to be attacked by the suspects while they were carrying out patrolling duty at Lorong Yusuf Shahbuddin 44D, Taman Sentosa. Both policemen came across five men, believed to be Indonesian nationals, before a scuffle broke out as they were making checks. One of the policemen died while receiving treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR). His colleague was now receiving treatment at the same hospital. Both the suspects were shot dead. Meanwhile, Dr Afif’s statement was also criticised by the Police Supporters’ Club which described him as being uncivilised and demanded that he made a public apology. Yesterday, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said there was no breach of the standard operating procedure (SOP) in the incident. He said the two policemen acted correctly when stopping to check on the five individuals who appeared to be behaving in a suspicious manner. |
