| Posted: 17 Jul 2013 02:10 PM PDT G Palanivel yesterday removed Samy Vellu's son Vell Paari from MIC Central Working Committee (CWC), a move believed to strengthen the party and bringing about 'changes and effectiveness'. The party president however did not give any reason for the 'dismissal' but some believed Vell Paari, 51, was over outspoken in his ways although many approved his style. The strategic director once threatened to take MIC out of Barisan Nasional over his dissatisfaction at Perkasa and other issues. He also criticised former PM Tun Dr Mohamad, accusing him of being racist, and urging BN not to blame the Chinese for supporting the opposition during the May 5 general election. Also dropped is the party's Putri chief J Usha Nandhini. KUALA LUMPUR: MIC strategic director S. Vell Paari and the party's Puteri chief, J. Usha Nandhini, have been dropped from the party's central working committee.Former president S Samy Vellu has yet to comment on the latest development but many were shock and disappointed with Palani's decision. However, it is the prerogative right of the party president to do so, especially when MIC was trying hard to woo more Indians to join it. This 'on the fence' Indians - just like many Malays and Chinese - are either non-party members or having reservation about MIC. But did his removal has anything to do with his interview with The Star a few days ago about the possibility of Palanivel-Subramanian head-on collision for MIC No.1 post in the next party elections? Hoping for MIC to be better... |
| Posted: 17 Jul 2013 03:30 AM PDT I don't quite agree with the government's decision to repeal the Sedition Act 1948, probably because similar decision on the Internal Security Act (ISA) and Emergency Ordinance (EO) has opened the gate to excessive racial and religious incitements. Its replacement, called the Harmony Act is said to retain the main provisions of the 'draconian' Act and will not affect the government's power to deal with threats to national harmony and security, meaning that it will only involve changing its name. Oopppss! I am not the only one. Many others out there are against its abolition, and I am not sure as to whether the government - elected by the rakyat - has gone down to the ground for feedback because all laws effect the people directly, and not much those at the top. However, as a layman, I can only express my personal view. Just like millions other, we must support the leaders and abide by all decisions made by the bosses! Come next general election, our duty is to vote for them again... PUTRAJAYA: The decision to repeal the Sedition Act and replace it with the National Harmony Act would not affect the Government's power in dealing with any action that threatens national unity and harmony, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.DAP Karpal Singh and friends will emerge winner again, after succeeded in pressuring the government to repeal the ISA. When Karpal said we should throw the Sedition Act in the bin, we are happy to oblige. We can't just stand the pressure and soon, more things will have to be chucked off just because we couldn't cushion the mounting pressure. We are pleasing the opposition more than those who voted and retained us in power. While the opposition's cooperation is not easy to get, we are too generous by submitting to their this and that demands. I just want a stable and peaceful nation free of racism and religious intimidation and provocation. Whatever the government does, the rakyat must show support. Each time the government introduces a new law and new policy, its our duty to 'swallow' it, irrespective if it draws flak or backfires. One of these days, we will have more new laws like Akta Sejahtera, Akta Tolak Ansur, Akta Bagi Amaran, Akta Lebih Kurang, Akta Bagi Muka, Akta Suka-Suka and others to signify how tolerance the government is. I am just a rakyat! |
