Resign! Let's have by-elections

Posted: 29 May 2013 08:10 PM PDT

Opposition MPs who planned to boycott the Parliament session next month should consider this option - resign!

Since people like Anwar Ibrahim, Tian Chua, Lim Kit Siang, Rafizi and others are neglecting their duty as representatives to their respective constituencies, may as well we call for by-elections to find their replacement.

We are not asking all opposition MPs to step down because some of them have recognised the 13th general election result and will go to the Parliament for the mandate given by the voters. They are the responsible ones.

As for Anwar and about 20 more, they should let go of their MP status and face by-election should they ignore the mandate as 'wakil rakyat'.

They are still going around the country, organising one rally after another to avow their dissatisfaction at the election result, the Election Commission and Barisan Nasional. Until when, nobody knows.

The EC committee had dismissed fraudulence during the general election, claiming it was the best-organised thus far. However, some Pakatan Rakyat MPs alleged they were the actually winner in the national poll, and that BN has robbed them the victory.
PETALING JAYA: The PKR will continue with their rallies nationwide to denounce the recent general election's results until the Government addresses their calls for electoral reforms.
Chief organiser and PKR supreme council member Datuk Johari Abdul said four rallies would be held in Perlis, Sungai Petani, Kota Baru and Batu Pahat next month.
Johari, the Sungai Petani MP, reiterated the party's demand that all the Election Commission members resign, besides two other demands.
The party also wants by-elections in 30 constituencies where cheating allegedly took place and a postponement of the election law amendment and redelineation exercise.
"We will have rallies every week if the Government does not heed our demands," he said at the PKR headquarters here yesterday.
When asked why the PKR would not stop making the demands and move on, Johari said the party would not do so until the matters at hand were addressed first.
Meanwhile, PKR director of strategies Rafizi Ramli claimed that there was an incident on polling day in the Pengkalan Hulu state seat in Perak where a ballot box went missing for two hours, requiring the ballots in it to be eventually cancelled.
He produced a police report filed by PKR polling agent Shairi Md Tajudin on the alleged incident.
Rafizi also showed a police report lodged by Abu Hussin Tamby, the agent for defeated PKR candidate in the Ayer Limau state seat in Malacca Halim Bachik, who claimed to have seen EC agents counting the advance voters' ballots on April 30, when they were only allowed to do so on polling day.
Many have voiced concern with the manner in which Pakatan contests the election result. Instead of producing evidence of the 'vote rigging' and petition it, they chose the rallies.

However, there are also allegation by BN candidates and third parties that Pakatan too had resorted to 'cheating' during the polling day. Perkasa, for instance claims of having some proofs about Pakatan's 'phantom voters'.

However, all elected MPs - BN and Pakatan - must attend to their duty as 'wakil rakyat' when the Parliament convenes. Any move to boycott it would mean they are not willing to take up the responsibility of representatives to those who voted for them.

Hence, if they refuse, the voters have every rights to choose a new 'wakil rakyat' via by-elections!
