Posted: 22 Oct 2012 05:43 PM PDT I just hope our Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reads this before making any more controversial statements on his support for 'the security of Israel'. Malaysia, like many other countries, will not recognise the Zionist regime until it recognises the rights and sovereignty of the Palestinians for an independent state. But Tel Aviv is still far from 'implementing' what it had promised three decades ago - a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, which is already reaching a crisis point. Former US President Jimmy Carter on Monday said the Israeli-Palestinian peace process had reached a crisis point and that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's government was not pursuing a two-state solution.I wonder if Anwar understands what 'a two-state solution' is but he is obviously ignoring the paramount need for a peaceful and stable Middle East, especially after the Tahrir Squares which inspires his politics saw the fall of some Arabs' strong regime and the death of good leaders and thousands innocent people. He should also learn to accept the fact that Israel is the axis for global conflict, the only reason why Washington's detente in some regions drew flax and met with opposition. We are not against the Jews as most Jews are peace-loving people but we are against the regime that oppress the race that had given them a space to live.
Carter also said the situation is 'worse now than it's ever been for the Palestinians' because of the expanding settlements and lack of prospects for change. Describing himself as 'grieved, disgusted and angry' (hahaha), he said the two-state solution is 'in death throes', which he called 'a tragic new development that the world is kind of ignoring'. Surveys show Palestinians and Israelis overwhelmingly support a two-state solution, but intellectuals on both sides have increasingly been talking about a binational, single state. But models for such a state generally either imagine Israel losing its Jewish character, or ruling over a Palestinian majority in an undemocratic way. Mr. Carter called the one-state option 'a catastrophe - not for the Palestinians, for Israel' |
