ISLAMIC LAW is a crime!

Posted: 12 Jun 2014 11:18 PM PDT

So, 'hudud' or the Islamic Law is a 'crime'.

That's what lawyer Tommy Thomas (pic) said yesterday: "State assemblies have no business discussing what is clearly a criminal issue outside the legislative competence of state assemblies!"

He was lambasting Selangor Speaker Hannah Yeoh for allowing the debate on 'hudud' at the state legislative assembly, tabled by Umno.

Tommy was too harsh and 'kurang ajar' with such a statement. It was a pure insult on Islam and a total intimidation towards the Muslims.

Equating Islam Law to crime is uncalled for and I believe he must apologise before it turns into a time bomb. It was overbearing and seditious!

And I would like to commend Hannah for allowing the debate. Nothing was wrong with it.

And today, she came out in defense of her decision to allow the hudud debate in the state legislative assembly, saying that her approval is based on her role as speaker for all parties in the state.

"When I am the speaker, I am no longer a DAP or Pakatan Rakyat member. I am neutral. My personal view does not matter," Hannah Yeoh (pic) told a press conference.

Yeoh said as the speaker she had to be fair to all parties in the assembly. "I have to give consideration to all requests," she said.

MCA also entered the fray and urged Yeoh to reject the motion which had been tabled by Umno Selangor.

The BN component party also urged BN chairman and Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to take action against Selangor Umno reps who tabled the motion.

Hannah made the right decision although she may face continuous bashing from her own party-mates in DAP.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) component party also urged Najib, who is the coalition chairman, to demand that the assemblymen withdraw the motion as it has severely affected the ruling coalition's moderate image.
"[The] BN Supreme Council has never discussed the feasibility of hudud in Selangor, nor discussed the issue during division and BN meetings," MCA Publicity Bureau Chief Datuk Chai Kim Sen said in a statement.
"It is obvious that Selangor Umno has gone against the BN spirit to negotiate and destroy national unity."
"As BN chairman, the Prime Minister must immediately stop and instruct that the motion to be retracted," he added.

A Sultan's reminder

Posted: 12 Jun 2014 08:18 PM PDT

To all Malaysians, its not difficult to foster good inter-race and interfaith relations that could make the country a better place to live.

The keys are in our hands, especially our leaders and politicians.
Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah yesterday urged the people to show mutual respect and not to violate each other's religious boundaries.
He said Malaysians were from different races and practised different religions and cultures. Hence, building harmony in the country was a collective responsibility.
"Muslims and the institutions responsible for Islamic affairs need to be aware of the sensitivities of the followers of other religions.
"At the same time, non-Muslims must understand and respect Muslims' religious sensitivities.
"They should be sensitive to the feelings of Muslims when they choose to touch on Islam, more so when they openly criticise Islamic rulings and Allah's command, as contained in the Quran and life guidance, as given in the Sunnah (sayings and practices of Prophet Muhammad."
What we face today did not happen in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Only after some quarters started manipulating race and religion for politics, things got worse.

The best reminder thus far by a Malay ruler...
