Will the Sri Menanti rich please help? Posted: 02 Jan 2014 01:05 AM PST Istana Sri Menanti is where family members of the Negri Sembilan royalty officially reside. Unofficially, they live elsewhere but come official ceremonies, Sri Menanti is where they must go to, usually. I have a good buddy who lives in Sri Menanti but he is not a member of the royalty. The Prime Minister's mother-in-law is from Kg Mertang in Sri Menanti.
This 18-year old lad in this picture is a victim of JE and he is also from a village in Sri Menanti. His poor family can really do with some help from their well-to-do neighbours. Anyone else who'd like to help ease their burden can find details h e r e.

Tell your CM to return the car, YB Posted: 01 Jan 2014 11:00 PM PST | Rafizi: "Bad timing to buy Merc but good investment, people will accept in the end" |
Rafizi Ramli's predicament as an ambitious newcomer in Pakatan is he couldn't have come down hard on Lim Guan Eng even if he had wanted to. That's because the Penang Chief Minister is way "up there" in the Pakatan hierarchy; in other words, well above the Pandan MP's pay grade
So the best RR can do is gently criticize the DAP strongman while making sure his comments h e r e are couched with lines like "it's a good investment", "people will eventually accept the decision", "Lim is more than able to defend the purchase", "the Merc is a steal", etc etc. All of which only prove that Pakatan politicians are still politicians, they will bugger you if you allow them to.
RR must tell Guan Eng to return the big Merc, as simple as that. Or else, it won't be "one or two weeks being whacked by the media". If the CM is a man of his words, he must to the right thing. It's not merely a matter of bad PR or bad timing, as Rafizi might want it downplayed - it's a matter of principles. If I may paraphrase LGE, "Pakatan must do the right thing ... the people are suffering."
The Edge Daily (Pub Date: July 25, 2008) Lim: Unwise to spend RM3.42m on Mercs PENANG: It is not wise of the Terengganu state government to spend RM3.42 million to buy 14 Mercedes Benz E200 Kompressor limousines, especially at a time when the people are reeling from rising living costs. Instead, moderation should have been exercised. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who expressed these views to the press yesterday, however, agreed that the quality of a Mercedes Benz was better than that of a Proton Perdana V6 Executive. The Benz's maintenance costs were also lower. He said that the Penang state government had cancelled the order for five new Perdanas worth over RM600,000 and decided to use existing vehicles. "We decided to make do with what we have to save cost as long as the car can move and reach the destination. Even the state secretary (Datuk Jamaludin Hassan) had complained that the Perdana has incessant gearbox problems and a leaking roof but that should not be an excuse to splurge. "They could have even purchased Toyotas. They are the leading car brand in the world, overtaking even General Motors and are much cheaper than Mercedes Benz," said Lim. He said Umno should practise what it preached. "Umno must do something about this. Its leaders are living luxuriously while the people are suffering," he added. Deleting a Bru Posted: 01 Jan 2014 06:00 PM PST | Lubok Melayu |
Blogs come and blogs go. During the seven-odd years that I've been blogging at Rocky's Bru, I've opened a few more blogs to, er, dabble in other realms and offbeat issues. There was Lubok Melayu (June 11, 2006), an attempt at Malay puisi and other writings; 84 Jalan Tangsi May 2, 2009), which deals with Press freedom and other media matters; and Brewed (Dec 28, 2006), a collection of impromptu pictures and short, random thoughts.
I opened Little Chinese Bru (Aug 2, 2011) to share with readers " the views of the Chinese communities in Malaysia on various issues affecting them, as told by the editorials in the many Chinese newspapers in this country, with the hope that we can live happily ever after as we have lived happily till now."
| Little Chinese Bru |
Ninety-six postings (last entry Oct 26, 2013) and over 150,000 page views during that period, the time has come to shut it down. Main reason: the volunteers who have been doing the translating of those articles in Bahasa Malaysia and English and sending them to me (and some other quarters) are no longer able to continue with the great work. Maybe because there's not much interest in the views of the Chinese communities any more, especially after the so-called tsunami, or maybe because they could no longer pay the bills, or they are too busy with other stuff ... I'm not so sure. One thing I am sure about is: it's a great shame to have to let it go.
But a new blog is born every minute. Today I discovered Sensible Malaysian, a new socio-political offering that promises to help you make sense of issues around us. For example, the blogger comes right at you and say that Shia is not Islam and the Shias are not Muslims. and I think that makes perfect sense. I disagree, though, that the new Proton Accord Perdana is just plain BAD.
