| Posted: 24 Nov 2013 04:29 AM PST I am moved by a story about a girl in Perak who tried to take her own life just because she failed to register for secondary education. The only reason - she fails to get her Mykad! Well, something needs a thorough study here. The prerequisites to education must impose no barriers. The system needs to change. The Home Ministry and its agency the National Registration Department must take into account the plight of thousands of kids who were denied the basic rights to education over the same reason - no birth certificate and that they are not Malaysian citizens. IPOH: The 12-year-old girl whose application for a MyKad was rejected two months ago attempted to take her own life following abuse from schoolmates and neighbours.Amid our strong emphasis on 'education for all' and 'every kid deserves the rights to get education', we are still being unfair and cruel to them. There must be a way to solve this. What do you want them to become when they grow up? Whores? Beggars? I believe Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will take this matter to the Cabinet. Children, irrespective of their status and nationality, MUST GO TO SCHOOL! |
