KJ talks law!

The opposition is against any detention without trial. After successfully taking advantage of a 'weak' administration, they managed to have the Internal Security Act (ISA) and the Emergency Ordinance (EO) repealed.

And they are still at  it, this time for the abolition of the Sedition Act 1948 and reducing the police power in dealing with hardcore criminals.

Most interesting is when more and more pro-Barisan Nasional second the opposition's notion, making the ruling party looks more off balance.

Latest is Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who proudly avowed his detest towards 'detention without trial law'. The police, he said had too much power under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 which enabled them to remand any criminal suspect.
There should be greater focus on enhancing the efficiency of the police in checking crime rather than introducing new laws.
Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar (pic), in making the suggestion, said such efforts included raising the skill of the police force in carrying out criminal investigation and improving the technical facilities of the force.
"Personally, I don't agree with the enforcement of any law that provides for detention without trial because this contravenes the individual's human rights and the principle of natural justice, and this is something that we cannot accept.
"So, we should not introduce any law that allows for detention without trial but should instead enhance the capability of our security forces," he told reporters at a breaking of fast organised by the Negeri Sembilan Umno Youth with the media in Seremban.
He said this when asked to comment on the polemic regarding the new bill to tackle serious crime to be tabled in Parliament in September which is said to incorporate an element on detention without a trial.
Khairy, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister, said the police actually had extensive powers under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 which enabled them to remand any criminal suspect.
He said even if a new law was to be formulated, it should not include the element of detention without a trial as this contravened the principles in the constitution. - Bernama
So, my simple summary on KJ's statement is - set loose the rapists, drug dwellers, murderers and others until they go to court!

And while on the loose, we have to let them prey on more victims before the court makes the verdict, and during that 'free time', more people would have been robed, raped or killed.

What KJ should propose in the next Parliament seating is to repeal all stringent laws and strip the police of its power to act. I believe it would be a brilliant idea from a political wallaby!
