'Protecting' the extremists and criminals Posted: 18 Aug 2013 06:41 PM PDT 1. A group of lawyers said Home Minister's decision to strip the Singaporean of his Malaysian PR for allowing a group of Buddhist to 'sembahyang in a surau' in Johor was rash. 2. Former de facto law minister in Pak Lah's cabinet Zaid Ibrahim said Zahid Hamidi is not fit as a Home Minister. 3. Zaid, after saying that PM Najib is the best man to unite Malaysia, again made a stinging remark that Malaysia is no better than a Taliban country, a tirade against the country's religious authorities. 4. Only lousy unthinking Muslims challenging Islam, Zaid said referring to Zahid's advice to non-Muslims to stop making claims to use 'Allah' as their reference to god. 5. Again, lawyers and Zaid defended dog trainer Maznah Yusof over a 'dog Raya' video clip. 6. Alvivi insulted Muslims and Islam with their 'bak kut teh for buka puasa' card posting on their Facebook, and some lawyers said they didn't deserve to go behind bars; and that a warning was sufficient. 7. Zaid, Karpal Singh, the opposition and the Bar Council attacked a plan to introduce another law similar to the repealed Emergency Ordinance (EO) which will provide the police with adequate power to detain major crime suspects without trial for investigation. 8. A posting on the social media which insulted the Prophet Muhammad. The person gave his statement to the authority and no further action was taken. These are among many 'happenings' over the last few months which stirred interfaith relations in the country. More and more people had joined the bandwagon, enjoyed every segment of it, mocking at the law and authority who are... handicapped. Extremism and major crime are also on the rise. Murder, extortion, rape, drug and guns are getting rampant. However, those who claimed to be 'masters of laws' are providing more 'legal protection' to ex-convicts' and 'leading criminals' rather than helping the victims. This is what Malaysia have now - a bunch of lawyers-cum-human rights propagators who talk highly of their profession but did nothing to help the government and the people in formulating the right set of crime-prevention law. To them, a punitive action is deemed as 'rash' and 'harsh'. Its better to put a drug addict behind bars for two years than remanding a true murderer for a week to facilitate investigation. Why? Their logic is - its easy to convict a drug addict by a drug test than implicating someone of murder although the gun was found in his hand. So, if Zahid is not fit as a Home Minister, who is Mr Zaid? You yourself? Or Lim Guan Eng? Or Hadi Awang? Or Rafizi Ramli? And what are the kind of laws should be introduced to help bring down the major crime rate in the country, or the ones that could 'frighten' Malaysians from inciting inter-racial and inter-religion sentiments? Will it be sufficient enough to haul up a group of bank robbers for investigation for one day and release them on bail for a couple of months in order for them to rob again, and again before they are produced in courts? Have I forgotten anything? Nope! Those involved in major crimes have the right amount of money to hire good lawyers like Zaid and Karpal. No drug addict could afford to do so, and neither do the victims of such crimes. No wonder many lawyers are against the EO and detention without trial... that explains everything, right? And since religious and racial extremism is getting out of control, what is the best way to deal with it? Tolerance and 'pat on the back', telling them "ok la, ini kali lu bunuh satu orang, takpa la. lain kali jangan buat lagi, ok?" |
