Comments Posted: 16 Aug 2013 06:45 PM PDT I do not wish to prolong this issue about Nazri Aziz appointing his son as a special officer. Since PM Najib himself has approved it, there is nothing much we can say, right? However, I just wanna publish one or two readers' comment, which I find quite interesting. Mustapha Ong says: "In this context and being a former Special Private Secretary to the late Tan Sri Mohammed Rahmat, I wish to clarify that "the PMO circular that governs the administrative regulation in the appointment of any position of authority, Political Secretaries, Special Private Secretaries, Private Secretaries and Special Officers from the Minister's relatives, including wives, children, uncles, aunties, nephews, nieces, cousins and others are not allowed.
However, there may be exceptions to the rule subject to the written approval of the Prime Minister." I am not sure whether this administrative rule had been reviewed and such appointments are now legal and acceptable in the administration. I recalled that our former prime minister had also appointed Khairy Jamaludin as one of his principal Special Officer.
Now that Minister Nazri had appointed his son to an official position in his own Ministry, requires an official clarification, which our prime minister has given some clarification that may or may not be acceptable in the public interest as the appointment may be construed with a numerous administrative implications.
It is not about who pays the salary, etc of the subject concerned but also the question of security, integrity, transparency, etc that had to be considered. There must be a valid and legitimate reason that such a family related appointments are not allowed which have clearly contravened certain administrative regulations and compromising working relations between the Minister concerned and his own family members." An Anon says: I am awed by this issue but to think again, who else would not say anything if someone from a family member becomes an aide or Special officer to a Minister, worst still a son or daughter of the Minister himself.
Is the Government really short of hiring special aides these days? If need be, keep it low profile Nazri. I kind of think that no one at this present moment will think anything positive of whatever BN does.
So, stay out of this politics and hire someone else. We can't stop the rakyat from weighing the issue and making their own assessment. They are our voters, with the rights to opine and speak up. Its up to our leaders to calculate it... but will they? |
PM approves Nazri Posted: 16 Aug 2013 08:36 AM PDT So... PM Najib Tun Razak approves what Nazri Aziz did when the Tourism Minister appointed his son Nedim as a special officer. PM says nothing was wrong with it because for one reason - that the young boy is not paid by the government. If his salary or allowance comes from the government, then it will be wrong. Aaaaahhhh... he is a wise prime minister, everything he says is right! There is no problem with a minister or a member of the government administration recruiting a family member as his aide if it does not involve any payment of salary or allowance to the aide by the government, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pic). "If such an aide is hired by the minister and gets paid by the government, it is not allowed. "But if the work is carried out on a voluntary basis and the aide is not a member of the minister's office, we have no objection to this. (It's okay if) he assists in the programmes and does not involve any payment to him by the government." Najib said this to reporters after launching the National Settlers Day celebration and Felda Integrity Plan at a Hari Raya do at the Sungai Tiang Felda scheme, here, today. On the issue of Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz who was claimed to have hired his own son as a special officer with the ministry, Najib said he understood that the son was not an official aide who was paid a salary by the government. "I learnt that he is only helping out unofficially. He is not listed as a minister's aide who is paid a salary and allowance by the government," he said. Many quarters have questioned Nazri's action of roping in his son to allegedly work with the ministry of which he is its minister. However, yesterday Nazri clarified that his son, Muhammad Nedim, had no official appointment as special officer with the ministry but was only working for him to serve the youths in his parliamentary constituency of Padang Rengas in Perak, and that Muhammad Nedim was not on the government payroll.
I believe other ministers and deputy ministers too are eligible to plant their son, daughter, wife and 'culai' at their respective office as long as they dont come under the government payroll. 'Funds' can easily be obtained to pay them, doesn't matter how many are they. Our PM gets smarter by the day...so, I better rest my case! |
