Election petitions see no winner

PKR just couldn't proof anything. BN too!

None of the general election petitions filed by both sides has proven what they had claimed as 'vote-buying and vote rigging' thus far. Although more cases are pending legal decision, it looks like the election result will stay.

Latest is the decision by the Kuala Lumpur High Court to struck out PKR petition for Setiawangsa parliamentary constituency in the Federal Territory. It was filed by PKR candidate Ibrahim Yaacob.

The Election Court in Kuala Lumpur yesterday also dismissed petitions by Pakatan Rakyat to challenge the results of two state seats and a parliamentary seat in Kelantan which were won by Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 13th General Election.

They are Air Lanas and Kok Lanas state seats and Ketereh parliamentary seat.

Judge Datuk John Louis O'hara also ordered the petitioners to pay a total of RM200,000 in cost to all the respondents including to Air Lanas assemblyman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

At the same court, O'hara also rejected BN's petitions against two Pas state seats - Mengkebang and Manik Urai and ordered the petitioners to pay RM60,000 in costs.

In his judgment, the judge said he dismissed the petitions because the petitioners among other failed to comply with the provisions under the Election Petition Rules 1954.

In Penang, the court also struck out the petition filed against BN seats Telok Bahang (state) and Balik Pulau (parliament).

Lets wait for more... although its really a waste of time!

A snobbish SUSK!

I am disappointed with the 'shocking' treatment I received from a minister's senior officer at one ministry today.

I carried a mandate from his boss, that I needed to see this SUSK (setiausaha sulit kanan) over a small matter. Remember, a SUSK is second after the political-secretary to a minister.

However, I was treated like an office boy. He received me like I was giving him a big problem. No hand shake, my 'salam' didnt get an answer (he is a Muslim, of course!). And since he was having a guest, a senior ministry officer, I guess, he talked to me in a manner of a teacher and kindergarten pupil.

I wanted to explain something but embarassed, I left abruptly. I sent his boss a text message while driving out of Putrajaya.

Come to think about it, and after collecting a lot of info over the years about the attitude of ministers' officers (including that of the PM), I realised this could be part of the reasons why public support for BN and Umno-led government keeps declining.

While some ministers and politicians are categorically good, their officers are otherwise. They are the ones who spoil their boss' good image, thus attributing to a minister, a deputy minister and others lost their seat in general election, and also in party election.

I have seen a lot of similar cases, especially during Pak Lah's era as prime minister.

My only hope is for this SUSK to change his approach. Don't be too authoritative when it comes to 'working with buddies'. Maybe he didn't know me although I've met him twice at his previous ministry.

If he doesn't change, he will spell trouble for his boss.

So, he better measure his doings!
