I think Sultan Kiram and family love the attention and publicity given by local and international media on their 'success' invasion of Lahad Datu and the 'heavy losses' incurred by the Malaysian armed forces.

His daughter Jacel Kiram - dubbed as highly-educated - was caught with fake photos of the incident but proudly produced it to the media.

Princess Jacel Kiram, daughter of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III, shows on Sunday a purported image of Malaysian casualties after a clash between Malaysian authorities and armed followers of Sultan Kiram in Lahad Datu, Sabah. A similar photo of the Princess appeared on the front page of the Philippine Star. GMA News Online has verified that the image is fake, and most probably of dead Thai soldiers killed in Thailand in 2007. The image of the Thais has previously appeared elsewhere on the Internet - Danny Pata of GMA News

Our soldiers' safety in Mindanao... and Misuari's offer

Posted: 03 Mar 2013 10:11 AM PST

The 'war' in Lahad Datu rages on. The invaders from 'Sulu Sultanate' refused to leave while their king Sultan Kiram said his followers will remain in Sabah 'till their last blood'.

No winner at the moment. We lost 7 policemen while the Sulu lost 16. However, this is not we wanted - a tragically bloody encounter that could have been avoided had Kiram asked them to leave and return to Mindanao.

Mindanao? It petrifies me. We have some soldiers in Mindanao as observer to the peace plan which came into effect at Malacanang last year when PM Najib witnesses it.

What if... yes... what if the Sulu and the Muslims in southern Philippines take revenge and vent their frustration and anger on them. As most of them are supporters of the 'invasion', our Ministry of Defense should monitor our soldiers there because they can be outnumbered anytime.

Thank you to Manila for issuing the reminder yesterday - for Malaysian soldiers in Mindanao to observe caution.

And now, chairman of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Nur Misuari is offering his assistance to stop the war in Sabah and persuade the Pinoys to lay down their arms and return to where the belonged.

I am not sure what else can convince Kiram that its not the right way to push for his claim on Sabah because President Aquino himself had failed.

However, I believe we should give Misuari the chance. The only thing is that, he cannot tell Kuala Lumpur not to send more troops to Lahad Datu and Semporna. Its not his turf!

But he better give it a try. Talk to Kiram again. If he is still defiant, all doors to negotiation are closed!

Nur Misuari, chair of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) says he is willing to mediate on the tension between Malaysia and the Sultanate of Sulu on the disputed island of Sabah, where violence erupted after a clash between the Sultanate's police force and the Malaysian army.
He said he is willing to go to Sabah and talk to the troops who launched a standoff, "in a brotherly way."
The MNLF leader said the governor of Tawi-Tawi Sadikul Sahali  and "somebody from the national government" has pleaded with him to join an entourage going to Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.   "They want me to contact these young people, tapos ngunit ngayon, aywan ko (but now, I don't know)," he said.
Misuari said another way of solving the problem, is by making an appeal to his friend Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.   He claims the Prime Minister is a cousin of his grand nephew,  whose grandfathers are brothers. "So I intend to send him there, to talk to Najib and persuade him to desist from sending more forces [in Sabah]."
