"PETALING JAYA - Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) President Datuk Paul Low today revealed that Malaysia scored 49 out of 100 for the Corruption Perception Index (CPI). He disclosed that Malaysia ranked 54 out of 176 countries this year.

He said that this is a "significant improvement" as compared to last year's CPI score of 43 out of 100 and country ranking of 60 out of 183 countries.

Malaysia clinched the third spot among the South East Asian countries with Singapore ranking fifth, Brunei 46, Malaysia 54, Thailand 88 and Indonesia 118.

Worldwide, Malaysia shares the 54th spot with Czech Republic, Latvia and Turkey.

Paul Low urged members of the public to appreciate what the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been doing to fight corruption.

Among the vital initiatives implemented by MACC were the Name-And-Shame Database, Corporate Integrity Pledge, Integrity Pacts, directive of support letters, Compliance Units in all key enforcement agencies, improvement of political financing framework and the establishment of the 14 Special Courts of Corruption."
