Sudan massacre

I am perturbed by the news that about 500 people were killed or massacred in Juba, southern Sudan. When I visited the place under the United Nations Volunteer Service tag four years ago, efforts were underway to rebuild houses, schools and clinics.

However, under present circumstances, everything has gone down the drain. Its really saddening!

Between 400 and 500 bodies have reportedly been taken to hospitals in South Sudan's capital after clashes between rival army factions.
UNITED NATIONS: UN peacekeeping chief Herve Ladsous told the UN security council that another 800 people had been wounded in battles between troops loyal to President Salva Kiir and an opposition leader, according to diplomats in the closed council consultations on the new crisis in Africa.Mr Ladsous said the information was based on reports given by Juba hospitals but the UN has not yet confirmed the toll amid new clashes on Tuesday.About 15,000 people have sought refuge in UN compounds around Juba since the troubles started on Sunday, the official was quoted as saying.Juba remains "extremely tense" and it appeared the clashes were being carried out between ethnic groups, Ladsous told the 15-member council.
Meanwhile, security forces in South Sudan have begun arresting dissident politicians following a military mutiny that the country's leader called 'an attempted coup' ordered by the vice-president he sacked in July.
A series of former ministers were detained hours after heavy gunbattles between soldiers loyal to Salva Kiir, the president, and troops backing Riek Machar, his former deputy and now his leading critic.
Hundreds of people fled to United Nations bases in the capital, Juba, as sporadic gunfire was heard through the day. The worst of the fighting took place around military barracks in the city in the early hours of the morning.
A 6pm to 6am curfew was ordered, Juba's international airport was closed and the country's land borders sealed. The whereabouts of Machar, who has said he intends to challenge Kiir for president in 2015, were not known.
The two men, from rival tribes that maintained an on-off alliance during South Sudan's war for independence, fell out earlier this year leading Kiir to fire his deputy in July and purge Machar's supporters from the government.

Who was right and wrong, did not matter.

What matters most was the 2 million people who lost their life... under various circumstances. It was about Sunnah and Shiite, between the US and Russia and between East and West...
