Bad mouth

Sickening! That's how I described a remark made by a senior US aviation officer for accusing Malaysia as 'weak, unprepared and incompetent' in handling the MH370 incident.

He also blasted our officials as being 'worst communicators' for issuing contradicting reports and not able to take up major crisis.
KUALA LUMPUR — The credibility of Malaysia's leaders took a further battering today (March 13) when CNN reported that a top American transport official had described local officials as being either "poor communicators or, at worst, plain incompetent".
Former US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) managing director Peter Goelz said this was the worst he had ever seen in disaster management, the Malaysian Insider reported today.
"There has been misinformation and corrections from Malaysian authorities on the whereabouts of MH370," Mr Goelz told CNN. "Did passengers check in but not board the aircraft? How did the two men use the stolen passports to board the aircraft? Is the wreckage of MH370 near the last location where their radar was detected?
"At best, Malaysian officials have thus far been poor communicators; at worst, they are incompetent."
Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, carrying 12 crew members and 227 passengers, dropped off the radar at 1.20am on Saturday. Despite a massive 12-nation search and rescue operation, there have been no clues as to the whereabouts of MH370.
"There is a reason for this," Mr Goelz said. "As you know, every time there is an accident, especially an international one like this, there is chaos during the first 24 to 36 hours. That is why there is a treaty which everyone has signed, including the Malaysians.
Yucks! I think as an American, he should as well look into unconfirmed information given by some US agencies involved in assisting the search for the missing plane.

While a US source said no data was collected after all communications with the plane was cut off, another said the plane sent signals to satellites almost four hours after it was reportedly missing. The US also said the plane may had gone down in the Indian Ocean.

We received three different leads from the US but we did not accuse them of providing us with wrong information because we also collected data from other countries involved in the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

Perhaps Goelz too should refresh his mind how the US handled the 9/11 incident which led to the invasion if Iraq after accusing Saddam Hussein regime as having a hand in it, when years later there was no evident that Baghdad possessed what Pentagon described as 'weapons of mass destruction' or WMD.

And you call that the best 'crisis management'?

Yes, there were weaknesses and hiccups in managing such a delicate issue but our officials, especially acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein are always at their best in channeling info to the media.

Foreign journalists are also full of praise for Hisham over his professionalism in addressing Press conference and taking questions from them.

Its shouldn't be turned into a blame game. While all participating nations are hoping for a sign of the plane whereabout, nobody should not belittle the concerted and endless effort undertaken to solve the mystery.
