UPDATE
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Malaysians might have better ethics if schools had focused more on building their character and were less dogmatic on the proper form of religious doctrine.
The former prime minister also called for a revamp of religious and moral studies, which he argued has failed in producing law-abiding citizens or employers with commendable work ethics.
"Most of the teachers, they are religiously educated, but their focus on good character building is not prioritised," Dr Mahathir told reporters after the International Conference on Teacher Education in the Muslim World in Petaling Jaya.

Religious and rituals are allowed in school compound!

That sounds okay to me... but...
A Professional Circular issued in 1976 states that religious programmes can be held in schools, said Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh (pic).
He said the circular also stressed that such programmes should be carried out with consideration to the sensitivities of the various races.
"For me, the issue here is not about the question of circular. It is whether we have been sensitive or not with each other, and not whether we sent a circular or not," he said when winding debate on the 2014 Supply Bill for the Education Ministry at the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was clarifying on the issue of the sacrificial slaughtering of cows ritual carried out in several schools which raised uneasiness among several parties during the last Hari Raya Haji.
On another issue, Idris admitted that the ministry faced an imbalance between existing teacher posts at state level and the number of applicants who wanted to teach in their state of origin.
Taking the example of Kelantan, he said there were only 24,800 teacher posts in the state but the teachers originating from Kelantan were more than 53,000 while in Kedah, there were 29,809 posts while teachers originating from that state was 40,298.
Idris said the ministry would also improve the Caring Teacher programme where teachers would take problematic students as their adopted children as an effort to curb social ills among school students.
...is it applied only to Sekolah Kebangsaan or the vernacular schools?

This means, any SRJK and SK compound is free to all religious activities such Aidiladha, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Thaipusam and rituals such as 'korban', ghost festival, 'kavadi procession', etc.

You see my point? That all sorts of animal can be slaughtered in schools compound, right?

Common lar, Mr Minister. Please define the secular in order to avoid more controversy and prejudice! Schools are schools!

Why not colleges and universities compound?
