Obama's insincere Ramadan wishes Posted: 10 Jul 2013 01:13 AM PDT President Obama's seemingly benign Ramadan message didn't sit well with many, especially the Muslims and those outraged by reports of forced feeding of Guantanamo Bay prisoners during the fasting month. Muslims on Twitter also expressed their outrage at him, accusing him of not being sincere. "I wish Muslims across America & around the world a month blessed with the joy of family, peace & understanding," he twitted. Scottish comic Frankie Boyle got in on the act as well, doing the jabs that American comedians won't do - to the delight of many of his 1.4 million followers. So much for being respected overseas. Muslims, especially in Pakistan had also voiced out their disgust and outrage at Obama over the killings of civilians by US drones. And to mark the beginning of Ramadan, the human rights group Reprieve released a video in which rapper Mos Def submits himself to forced feeding. The Council On American-Islamic Relations has also called on the President to halt the practice at Guantanamo. "We believe it's wrong to force feed at any time but it is particularly upsetting to do it through Ramadan," CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said. |
