Utusan, Pakatan and 'kereta lembu'... Posted: 13 Jun 2013 08:55 PM PDT Utusan Malaysia was slammed by the opposition for publishing a story about 'reduced car price' yesterday but many still remember how Anwar & Gang tried to hoodwink their rakyat with their ridiculous 'drop in car prices' if they are in power. Lim Guan Eng, Karpal and others got jumpy with the reports. Although there were some 'lies', I think Utusan was trying to inject some logic into the mind of the opposition that price reduction must be done gradually, and that there is no such thing as 'harga runtuh' in car prices. With the spiraling price of materials faced by component manufacturers, any reduction in price will be cushioned by distributors and agents. Here is the full list of car makes and prices in Malaysia. Although Proton and other car manufacturers have refuted Utusan's reports, the prices will definitely go down soon as promised by the government. The opposition is the bigger liar in this issue. Promising a cut by 50 per cent will see the demise of our car-maker Proton and Perodua. I think a 'kereta lembu' (picture) would easily fetch RM30,000 including the costs of the two cows. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has reiterated his polls pledge to reduce car prices in a tweet late last month, promising that car prices will be reduced in stages until 2017. On the same day, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed also said that the government had promised to trim car prices between 20 and 30 per cent over five years, as outlined in BN's election manifesto. "In fact, since October last year, the price of 10 popular models in the country have come down an average 7.3 per cent," he told reporters after attending the ministry's monthly gathering, the first after Mustapa was re-appointed to the Cabinet. Both BN and opposition Pakatan Rakyat have pledged cheaper car prices in the run up to the May polls, although through different mechanisms. Lim Guan Eng has called for actions be taken against Utusan for lying to the public. However, he failed to mention the lies contained in Pakatan Rakyat's election manifesto on the same issue - reducing car prices. And I got a feeling that Utusan simply published such 'lies' to track and trap another big liar! |
