Najib needs a big axe

Will Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak measure the criticism and 'recommendation' to clean up his office and his 'war room' by getting rid of the humps that almost trip him during the 13th general election?

Reading some portals and blogs and after weighing what former Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin said recently, I believe Mr PM has drawn the card and charted what is best for him, the administration and Barisan Nasional.

However, I still believe it is his prerogative rights to make the necessary adjustments, especially after taking into account the impact and thrums he received thus far.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak may dismiss all of his political aids due to their 'unsatisfactory performance'.
In a report from The Malaysian Insider today, all of them will be sacked from their respective positions for purportedly putting their interests above the Prime Minister.
Citing a statement from few 'sources', the local news portal said the move was to axe the 'deadwood' weighing down the PM's office ahead of Umno elections this year.
Before this, those individuals have received critical remarks from pro-Umno bloggers for their bad and humiliating defeat in the 13th General Election held last month, even in states where Barisan Nasional (BN) had already regain.
Among those were said to be removed were Datuk Latt Shariman Abdullah, Datuk Shahlan Ismail, Datuk Mohd Shafei Abdullah, Datuk Mohamad Fatmi Che Salleh dan Datuk Mohamed Suffian Awang.
According to the portal, all five of them were seen by strategists in Najib's election war room as having the best chances to give BN its opportunity to regain its two-thirds majority in Parliament.
Recently, former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin in an interview with Chinese newspaper, China Press, had criticised the PM's advisors for contributing to BN's loss in GE13.
Daim had urged the Najib to sack his advisors, blaming the wrong strategies used by them during the election.
Some attributed BN's poor showing in the 13th GE to wrong advice and deceptive leads provided by some of his advisers and campaign managers. Most of the information did not gel with the actual sentiment on the ground but what got to the boss was fabricated in order 'to please him' that everything was under control.

In fact, people at the 'war room' failed to feed him with precise information which led to some BN leaders believed that the ruling party would win between 145 and 167 parliament seats.

Fellow blogger Another Brick in The Wall who produces an interesting analysis of the situation, attributed the jittery to Najib's 'war room' people and the level of  'over confidence' that filled up the prophecy during the national poll.
Better late than never, Najib is showing that he listens. But he needs to do more to convince he has the guts to fire incompetents around him. Due to his advisers, Najib bungled on the candidate lists, campaign strategy, policies and cabinet appointments.
Can't agree more. Some heads must roll if Najib wants a more responsive and effective advisory team. He also needs to try out a few new buds and consider other options too, among which are:

-  revamping the whole structure of Jabatan Hal-Ehwal Khas or JASA, the think-tank wing under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia. Its reports and recommendation over the years were 'out of range' and can be disputed. We need a new team to lead JASA.

-  restructure the role of Kemas and its info machinery.

-  the role of Information Department must be re-defined. It was not very effective in the last two or three general elections as the people at the top were not very attentive to the task given. Change some people at the top, if there is a need to do so.

-  revise the role and function of the New Media Team or UMB at the PMO. Engage capable personnel from outside the PMO to manage it and not the people who are already employed as secretaries and other positions (they will have nothing better to do except attending to the big purse allocated for bloggers and the propaganda unit).

-  Umno also needs a new information chief, someone senior enough, with vast experience and not someone who goes around boasting about his personal achievements and the number of seminar and brainstorming session he had organised.

-  Umno too must be open to good suggestion from the ground. A mechanism must be established to avoid more lies from finding its way up to the top leadership.
