OutSyed The Box

B.rader A.nwar B.in I.brahim's Poopoo-larity

The talk now is Anwar Ibrahim stands a chance to loose the Parliamentary seat of Permatang Pauh. Did you know that when he 'balik kampong' to Permatang Pauh hardly anyone turns up to greet him?  His ceramah are empty not just of people but of any substance at all. In Selangor he plays up the water crisis but in Permatang Pauh he regurgitates old stories.

Talk is he may "hijrah" to a safe seat on Penang Island, leaving his second daughter to contest in Permatang Pauh.

For this Hari  Raya lets see who goes for their Open House in Permatang Pauh. Mana tahu tahun ini tak jadi kut? They may have to hire buses. The people from the Kulim area are ready to come for free makan anytime.  Tapi depa pangkah lain pula.

I am sure you have all read Syed Arabi's recent political survey. What is interesting is that the survey was done in the Pakatan controlled States Kelantan, Kedah, Penang and Selangor.  Here are some highlights :
  • In 2008, as Deputy PM, Najib had an approval rating of only 38%. Anwar had 58%. Nik Aziz had 61% (this tells you the kind of people that we have in the country. Its frightening).
  • Prof Syed Arabi Idid's latest poll in March 2012 says PM Najib has an approval rating of 63%. Anwar dropped to 37% and Nik Aziz is down to 42%.
  • By the way, even in the Pakatan State,s Dr Mahathir has a popularity rating of 74% - double the popularity of Anwar Ibrahim.
  • In 2008, 60% of those surveyed in Perak, Penang, Kelantan, Kedah and Selangor supported Pakatan.  By March 2012 BN's support in the same states had increased to 49%. Pakatan has slipped to 46%.
  •  PAS fell from 28% to 16% while PKR crashed from 20% to 8%. DAP's popularity improved from 12% to 14%.
  • Malay support for PKR is 10%,  Chinese support 7% and Indian support 5%.
  • PAS' support among the Malays nose dived by almost half from 39% to 23%; Indian support shrunk to a fifth from 20% to 4%. Chinese support went up 7% to 8%.
  • Barisan has regained the Malay voters. Its Indian support has jumped more than 100% from 29% to 60%.

I hope the BN boys do not start resting on their laurels already. The problem with the Pakatan is that time does not favour them. The more time passes, the weaker they become. Also more scandals get exposed. Selangor is becoming one scandal after another.

On the other hand, the more time passes, the more the PM Najib gets to visit the kampongs and the towns and do his walkabouts. Plus the PM has a fantastic winning manner - he does not attack the PAS too much. He does not pick a fight with them. The fact is the PM is quite fond of the PAS guys as well - as a Prime Minister to everyone, including PAS. This makes him hugely popular among the Malays.

And here is a big secret. In Peninsula Malaysia the elections are determined by one race and one race only - the Malays. Not by the Chinese or the Indians.

Even in 1995 when support for the BN was at its highest only about 26% of Chinese voted for the BN. In 2008 when the support for the BN was at the lowest since 1969, the Chinese vote was about 20%-23%.  That is not a huge difference.

It is the Malay vote swings that can make or break any political party.

Yesterday I was at a buka puasa at the Hilton KL. The place was jam packed. Everywhere you go, the five star hotels are booked full. Not just for buka puasa but even for dinner. The steak joints like Tony Romas, Chilis, TGIFriday and the Brazilian joint Carnaval have been  booked full for as long as I can remember.  If you dont have reservations, dont bother. Or you can wait and try your luck.

Rocky and I were discussing this and we concluded that the urbanites (especially KL dwellers) are unhappy because they did not get exactly what they wanted. If they only got a 5 Series instead of a 7 Series then they will bitch about it to kingdom come. If they expected 100% but they got 110% then they will say 'the Gomen has delivered'. We dont starve or suffer for want in this country. We are quite wealthy but we are upset because we cannot have more - which we rightfully deserve. (I agree with you guys ok!!)

But outside KL, despite the Gomen screwing up so much, the average Malaysian is not hindered from doing what he wants and pursuing wealth. Praba in Perak is happy in his money business, Dollah is scouting for more land to plant oil palm, Bakar is back in Pahang venturing into new things.

Unemployment in the country is now less than 5%. That is practically full employment. But this figure is not truly reflective of the real situation. Our buka puasa guest last nite is a DG in a Gomen Department. He said they had some vacancies open. Not to attract too much attention, they did not advertise in the Media. Instead they put the vacancy on their Ministry website and passed it through word of mouth. 30,000 people applied. Almost all were Malays.

There are serious unemployment problems among young Malay boys and girls. This is a major structural problem. We have to pay close attention to this. I believe if we do not solve this issue then the Malay vote swings in the future will become serious.

Bertahun Tiada Tindakan Jabatan Pengairan Dan Saliran

Posted: 13 Aug 2012 01:35 AM PDT

a) tiada penyelenggaraan berkala yang konsisten,

RAKYAT DIDAHULUKAN PENCAPAIAN DIUTAMAKAN

Terima kasih sekali lagi.

London Olympics 2012

Posted: 13 Aug 2012 12:41 AM PDT

Well after 4 weeks the Olympics are over. Usain Bolt remains stuck in my mind. He ran 9.63 to take the gold in the 100m sprint. He ran the 100m at a crazy 9.22 seconds in the 4x100m relay. Someone should tell him not to stop running until he cuts through the tape.

Here is the final medal tally for the Top 10 ranked countries.

United States
China
Russia
Great Britain
Germany
Japan
Australia
France
South Korea
Italy

Malaysia is ranked 58 with one silver and one bronze. Thanks to Lee Chong Wei and Pandelela Rinong.

I am impressed with South Korea which won  13 golds and is ranked 9th overall (28 medals). Japan has won less golds - 7 - but has won more silver and bronze which total 38 medals thus being ranked No. 6 overall.  If we go by gold medals alone then South Korea should be ranked No. 5 ahead of Germany, Japan, Australia and France.

China came in second this time with 38 golds. In my opinion, other than Usain Bolt, the star performer of the entire Olympics was the 16 year old Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen who won golds in the 200m and 400m medley. Shiwen set a new Olympic record of 2:07:57 for the 200m.

More than anything else it takes a perfected system, based completely on merit, that will generate Olympic medals. Because we are dealing with pure, biological, human  performance. And it takes training and more training plus competing, entering sports competitions and nurturing stars from an early age.

Being Malaysia we probably spend more money per sport than China and USA combined but most of it goes to waste. There is politics, interference by the powerful, money grabbing, incompetence and all sorts of crap which trips us up even before a swimmer gets into the pool or a runner gets on the track.

Did you know that since the Commonwealth Games in 199?? the diving pool at Bukit Jalil has been "rosak" on and off? More "on" than "off".  Even the pool is closed.

May I suggest to the Kementerian Sukan that they should at least cooperate with the Kementerian Pertanian and bela ikan haruan or ikan tilapia or ikan toman in the under utilised swimming pools? At least we will get back some returns from all that money that has been invested.

We also need to nurture our natural talent. The East Africans dominate the marathon and the distance runs because in their country they are natural runners. We have our own natural runners as well. These are the Iban people who live in the highlands in Sarawak as well as the natives in the Sabah Highlands.

Few people know that Sarawakian Army Rangers and Sarawakian Commandos have long been winning the race up the Gunung Tahan. They have done it in under five hours. (Folks if you hike it will take FIVE days  to reach the peak of Gunung Tahan!!)  Unfortunately the race is not held all the time and neither is it well publicised.

I believe if we organise these "highlands races" in Sarawak, Sabah and at Gunung Tahan on a regular basis (like they do in Kenya), we too may spot a natural winner for distance running.  (Cronies, pull out your calculators. At least RM100.0 million here that you can sapu). We can get more than one gold at the Olympics.

In Defense Of OutSyed The Box

These are some thoughts by a reader of my Blog.

By Tengku M.

Hi Syed,

Just to let you know am still reading your blog and laughing till I drop ! You are funny.

On a more serious note the accusation that you are anti Islam, anti this and that (including mother in laws) I just like to put in perspective in defence of your thoughts.  You are not anti religion but you are not in favour of  those managing religion who are almost illiterate in other matters that affects Muslim  society ( eg financial crisis that has made so many people poor, economic mismanagement that made us lose opportunities, the uncompetitiveness of Muslims in Malaysia in general, the almost zero understanding of Technologies by serbans thus making the Ummah wonder in awe when they see a "robot", the "god" particle that can un-end the foundation of religious thought and the general Muslims who are not well read thus misled etc etc )

In Surah Baqarah it clearly says "there is no compulsion" as God knows your inner feelings if you are forced to do it or you are doing it for Allah ie you can be religious like the serbans, showing how good they ate at 5.15 in the morning with loud speakers full blast, with no care in the world if they have woken up the sick, the old etc (and hardly anybody wakes up to listen as most have to work !)

Whilst the serbans get to catch up with their sleep later and also get paid - which is not what religion is about ie making money - the Serbans should be made to work like all of us from 8.30 am to 5 pm - see if they can keep up the God particle in them then.

Or you can be " a spiritual Muslim" ie a true one as it is pure emotion, not form nor forced to practice it.

This level requires deep knowledge (such as atomic particles and genetic programming, understanding other religious beliefs and those who don't believe) to finally accept Allah's existence and thus His guidance.

How many of those managing religion are at this level?

Thus the religious management in Malaysia is based on form - that's why there is  Jais,  Jakim, Perkim, even a minister in charge of our religion - and soon maybe Jarkun?  To force the Malays to accept "their" way (many are atrociously ridiculous rules).

Let me put forth a thought : Murder. In civil law if you are found guilty the hangman awaits you.  But when the Serban gang goes to "catch" a purported Khalwat case (you need 4 credible witnesses - so they bring 10?? ) - and the guy or girl "panics" and jumps over the ledge and dies, do the Serbans get hauled up for murder?

The guy / girl who jumped to death has not been found guilty of khalwat yet!! Maybe they were just talking? So the murderers walk free? How many deaths have occurred during the khalwat raids and how many more will happen before this insanity stops?

Such is the state of affairs of religious management in our country (I am numbed to submit)  in the gutter and abyss of incompetence , iliiteracy and total disregard for responsibility, justice and compassion.

One has to beg this question - who is the ultimate single point guy / woman who is in charge of the religion the Malays practice? How and who puts them in these positions? Do they have the much vaunted  "Con - sultant" concocted KPI's too ??

Till we sort this out the six to seven thousand Serbans coming into the system yearly will be the ultimate power in their "fear based on the unknown" system.

As you well know, the top students get to be doctors , engineers etc etc. But the "virtual subject" dropouts (the religious guys), how many of them understand laws of physics, biology or pythogras theorem? Let alone basic political history or economics? So they study Ugama and then come out to teach the "cleverer" people - who unfortunately have no time to read the Holy book and thus carry "inner fears of guilt" -  to lead them by the nose (your cow example ).

Research has shown countries which have "over controls on religious matters  like Malaysia" will be left behind in scientific and  economic and wealth growth - because its based on "cannots" and "tak tahu"....your Club of Doom is getting real.

Let not the frivolous criticisms bother you or else you cannot do what you want to do in a day. As they say : Dogs bark but the wagon moves on. Crticising without basis is "Fitnah" - even this some cannot understand.

Thought this defence of your thoughts deserves the write up.

Salam and selamat berpuasa.
