I think there is some Gomen bullshit here. First of all the arithmetic is tak betul. The report says 0.22% of marriages (ages 18-50) ended in divorce in 2010. OK. That is less than half a percent. Very good. Tapi, if we check the calculation : 33,788 divorces / 207,553 marriages x 100% = 16.2% divorce rate in 2010. In 2008 it was 26,432 divorces / 194,240 marriages x 100% = 13.6% divorce rate. Isnt this very high? 16.2 out of every 100 marriages will end up in divorce. Membazir betul lah all that khenduri kahwin. For comparison the Top 10 divorce rates in the world belong to these countries :
I got this chart from this site. Do check it out. Well the figures above are 'per 1000 people. It is not apples and apples. The US has a population of over 250 million people. Coming back to Malaysia, it is obvious that we are having a serious divorce rate problem, especially among the Muslims (read as Malays - dont forget everything is racial ok). The Gomen report says 80% of divorces are among Malays. Even if Malays / Muslims make up 65% of the population, it would seem that the Muslims are punching above their weight in the divorce courts. (65% of population but 80% of divorces). At the same time, the non Muslims who make up 35% of our population produce only 20% of divorces. The non Muslims are punching below their weight category. (35% of population but 20% of divorces). But the non Muslims dont attend 'kursus kahwin'. The Muslims must attend 'kursus kahwin'. Obviously the kursus kahwin is NOT working. Why do I say this? Because the Gomen report says "steady increase in the number of divorces over a 10-year period". I told you folks - the kursus kahwin is just a time wasting, money making scam. No money no religion. Maybe some of you will not agree. Maybe some of you will have a suggestion. Maybe you will suggest that to reduce the divorce rate among Muslims, why not extend the kursus kahwin to say 4 years? Make it like a degree course. Maybe if the kursus kahwin is extended to degree level, then we can reduce the Muslim divorce rate to match the non Muslims. Some of you might say that four years is too long. Ok how about a three year kursus kahwin? Diploma level only. Some of you might say that it should not be reduced any further - no two years or one year "Certificate Level". A one year or two year Certificate Level "kursus kahwin" is not going to help reduce the Muslim divorce rate at all. And for those of you who think that a dua hari atau tiga hari kursus kahwin (where you can pay RM80/= to lulus) is going to decrease the divorce rate among Muslims, well you better go and take a cold shower. The "kursus kahwin tiga hari" is not working. Why? Because 80% of divorces in Malaysia are Muslim divorces. And the Gomen says there is a "steady increase in the number of divorces over a 10-year period". Here are some suggestions which may help lower the Muslim divorce rate : i. postpone looking for a second wife indefinitely ii. if you insist on a second wife, wait a few years AFTER the first wife has died (preferably of natural causes). iii. if you are looking for the third wife, please make sure you have permanent membership in Al Arqam. iv. get a real job to support a wife and a family - one wife and one family at a time v. spend time with the wife and family - it is called marriage vi. if you are married, avoid ibu tunggal and dara tua - no matter how ugly the situation Try to qualify for Father's Day (which is tomorrow). This means you must have children who feel motivated to sayang you. They will buy you presents, smuggle durians for you, buy cigars for you and other stuff like that. These are just some suggestions. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Posted: 15 Jun 2012 10:34 PM PDT Anyone interested in doing a PhD about "Jonah in the Quran" ? Recently I listened to Bill Maher in his acclaimed documentary 'Religulous' (You can see it here, it is an education). He also mentioned the 'Jonah of the Bible'. Of course the Bible is NOT the Quran. Firstly, there are verses which mention Jonah or Yunus by name. Here they are : 4:163 We have inspired you, as we inspired Noah and the prophets after him. And we inspired Abraham (Ibrahim), Ishmael (Ismail), Isaac (Ishak), Jacob (Yakob), the Patriarchs, Jesus (Isa), Job (Ayub), Jonah (Yunus), Aaron (Harun), and Solomon (Sulaiman). And we gave David (Daud) the Zaboor. 6:86 And Ishmael, Elisha (Ilyas), Jonah (Yunus), and Lot (Lut); each of these we distinguished over all the people. 10:98 Any community that believes will surely be rewarded for believing. For example, the people of Jonah: when they believed, we relieved the humiliating retribution they had been suffering in this world, and we made them prosperous. 37:139 Jonah was one of the messengers. So there are ONLY four verses in the Quran that mention Jonah by name. (I am referring the Concordance of the Quran by Prof. Hannah J Kassis) The following 10 verses of the Quran narrate a story about Jonah 37:139 Jonah was one of the messengers. 37:140 He escaped to the loaded ship. 37:141 He rebelled and thus, he joined the losers. 37:142 Consequently, the fish swallowed him, and he was the one to blame. 37:143 If it were not that he resorted to glorifying (musabbiheen) 37:144 he would have stayed in its belly until eternity (yaumil yub' athoon). 37:145 We had him thrown up into a deserted place, exhausted. 37:146 We had a tree of edible fruit grown for him. 37:147 Then we sent him to a hundred thousand, or more. 37:148 They did believe, and we let them enjoy this life. Now a few things to note here. Nowhere in the Quran does it say that Jonah was inside a "whale". There is no "whale" mentioned at all. The word for fish in 37:142 above is 'al hoot'. ("Samaka" is another modern arabic word for fish). Anyway, just for your comparison, this word 'al hoot' indicating fish is also used in a few other verses in the Quran. Here are a few : 18:60 Moses said to his servant, "I will not rest until I reach the point where the two rivers meet, no matter how long it takes." 18:61 When they reached the point where they met, they forgot their fish (hoot), and it found its way back to the river, sneakily. 18:62 After they passed that point, he said to his servant, "Let us have lunch. All this traveling has thoroughly exhausted us." 18:63 He said, "Remember when we sat by the rock back there? I paid no attention to the fish (al hoot). It was the devil who made me forget it, and it found its way back to the river, strangely." This is the Quranic narrative of Moses travelling with his servant in the wilderness. They had caught a fish (al hoot) for their food but it escaped. I dont think Moses and his servant caught a "whale" in the wilderness for their lunch. So no whales ok. The other point to note is that no where does it say in the Quran that Jonah was inside the belly of the fish for one day, three days, thirty days or fourty days. There is no time element specified. Read carefully. The Quran only says : 37:142 Consequently, the fish swallowed him, and he was the one to blame. 37:143 If it were not that he resorted to glorifying (musabbiheen) 37:144 he would have stayed in its belly until eternity (yaumil yub' athoon). 37:145 We had him thrown up into a deserted place, exhausted. So please dont start speculating or guessing how much time Jonah spent inside the fish. The other point to note is that after being dumped ashore, Jonah recovered and he had a following of "a hundred thousand, or more" believers (refer Surah 37:147 above). There is no other mention in the Quran of any other messenger who had a following of "a hundred thousand, or more". In the Quran, in terms of numbers of believers during his own lifetime, Jonah was the most successful messenger. Here is a verse which does not mention Jonah by name but the narrative seems to refer to Jonah. 68:48 So wait with patience for the Command of thy Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish (as-haabil hoot) when he cried out in agony. There are two more verses in the Quran which are generally believed to refer to Jonah. Please refer Surah 21:87 and 21:88. However in 21:87 the reference is specific to a person by the name of Zan-noon. It is not Yunus. 21:87 And Zan-noon abandoned his mission in protest, thinking that we could not control him. He ended up imploring from the darkness "There is no god other than You. Be You glorified. I have committed a wrong." 21:88 We responded to him, and saved him from the crisis; we thus save the believers. Just some thoughts about Jonah. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Posted: 15 Jun 2012 03:40 AM PDT "Miss USA 2012 Oliva Culpo may be carrying a cool demeanor beneath her pageant crown but the allegations over whether she won the title fair and square are as heated as ever. Less than two weeks after one of the 50 women who lost to Culpo, Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin, resigned her title and charged that the pageant was a "fraud," a second contestant has come forward to back Monnin's claims that the pageant's finalists were selected in advance. The contestant, who is remaining anonymous, told FOXNews.com that she too heard Miss Florida Karina Brez reveal the list of finalists backstage before the top 15 finalists were announced on stage, the same allegation made by Monnin in a Facebook post the day after the June 3 pageant. "I saw Florida backstage and she was very, very flustered and upset…at that point she was able to reveal to me at least four of the five names who went on to be the top girls," the contestant told the website in an exclusive interview. "She couldn't remember the fifth because she was so upset. Several of the girls then started hearing through the grapevine about a list; a lot of people were upset." The Donald Trump-owned Miss Universe Organization that runs the Miss USA pageant has filed legal action against Monnin for defamation and says the new claims made by the anonymous contestant are just as false." |
