Posted: 28 Apr 2014 12:24 AM PDT US President Barack Obama yesterday urged Malaysia to be fair to non-Muslims in its 'moving forward', and at the same also called on Myanmar's regime to treat the minority Muslims equally if the nation wants to join a progressive world. I believe we have been treating the Chinese, Indians and other Malaysians well. However, the question is, do they treat Malays and Muslims equally and give them the same opportunity? Our politicians from both divides should answer this. Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in responding to Obama's statement said the issue of 'equality and fairness' for the non-Muslims should not arise. Malaysia does not impose any restrictions on non-Muslims and is fair to all races, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) said today in response to President Barack Obama's advice to the country's leadership.I guess Obama himself failed to recognise what Malaysia's contents are when pressing Putrajaya to uphold democracy by virtue of giving 'equal rights' to the non-Muslims on matters pertaining to 'Allah' and 'Islam'. Had he understood the complications of administering a multiracial and multireligion country like Malaysia, I believe he will support what the government has been doing to put the house in order. However, he didn't. And I wonder what the US diplomats in Kuala Lumpur had been doing to make their leaders understand what Malaysia is all about. Equating their democracy and ours is totally wrong! |
