A bit stupid Posted: 21 Mar 2014 07:44 PM PDT Not sure if it was Anwar Ibrahim or the Malay Mail but both just couldn't get the fact right. Its like calling a cow a buffalo. Maybe Anwar and the paper cannot differentiate between a man and a woman or in identifying a chicken and a duck. Read the story: KAJANG, March 22 — Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi must resign as defence minister if he fails to explain the military's delayed response to radar detection of an unidentified aircraft flying over Malaysian airspace, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said last night. The opposition leader said although military radars could not identify the aircraft as the missing Flight MH370, the defence forces exposed serious security lapse when it failed to act on the data immediately. "The plane turned back and flew over Kelantan, Perlis, Kedah and Penang and no one detected it? Were the radars not functioning?" Anwar said in his speech at the launch of Reformasi 2.0 here last night. "The defence minister must answer this question. The most pertinent question: how is it that an unauthorised flight can pass four provinces and no action was taken. Four days after the Boeing 777 carrying 239 people disappeared, Malaysian air force chief Tan Sri Rodzali Daud admitted on March 12 that an aircraft was plotted on military radar at 2:15am, 320km northwest of Penang Island off Malaysia's west coast. Rodzali, along with other officials, had earlier denied that the Beijing-bound plane had turned back from its flight path. The aircraft was last spotted on civilian radar about 1,200 nautical miles off Malaysia's east coast state of Kelantan. "This is incompetence. A threat to national security," Anwar said. Zahid is no longer our defense minister, its Hishammuddin Tun Hussein now. Maybe Anwar was a bit worn out when addressing the crowd; or the Malay Mail reporter was too proud not to admit the mistake. Yeah, small matter but its reflects how careless we are, that over-excitement sometimes drive us crazy and turn us into morons!

Twilight Zone Posted: 21 Mar 2014 03:46 AM PDT The non-stop global media coverage of the missing flight MH370 has entered the "Twilight Zone", says a Washington Post op-ed piece today. Eugene Robinson said he did not dispute the fact that the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 was a mystery but hit out at the "orgy of... pure speculation" surrounding the search for missing Boeing 777-200ER (9M-MRO). The plane disappeared on March 8 with 239 people on board en route to Beijing. That is the only indisputable fact at this point. Yesterday, Australia released satellite images of objects found floating in waters 2,500km from Perth. Robinson was particularly scathing about the way cable television networks – singling out CNN – have responded to the search for MH370, which enters its 14th day today. "CNN has soared to the top of the cable news ratings – at times besting even behemoth Fox News – by covering the story ceaselessly, and by that I mean you wonder when the anchors get a chance to go to the bathroom," Robinson said. After the Australians released the satellite images, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper tweeted that he was rushing back to the studio to cover this breaking development. This was despite the fact that all the Australians had were photographs of two pieces of debris, which might or might not be from MH370. Cooper turned up at the studio to "tell us the same thing, as if we were hard of hearing", said Robinson. read more...
