Now, its time for PM and friends to 'naik gaji'

After battering Selangor and Penang for hiking up the salary and allowance of their 'wakil rakyat', and after much heated arguments over its quantum, the one who spoke most on the issue suddenly came out with a BANG!

A report on study of allowance, salary hike for MPs, senators and House officials will tabled next year - says Minister in Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim.

Wow! Merely weeks after lambasting Selangor Mentri Besar Khalid Ibrahim and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over their new pay rise for wakil rakyat, the minister himself has been tasked to break the news.
THE report on the study of the adjustment and increment of salary and allowance for members of parliament (MPs) and senators is expected to be tabled next year, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahdidan Kassim said.
He said the study had covered all aspects, including the economy and current situation.  At present, the minister said the monthly salary and allowance received by the country's lawmakers was RM6,000, which was deemed low compared to other countries.
"In Cambodia and Thailand, for example, their MPs are receiving a monthly salary of up to USD4,000 (RM12,000). Even the lawmakers in Uganda receive approximately USD2,500 (RM7,000)," he said when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2014 at the Dewan Negara here yesterday.
Shahidan said the increase of salary and allowance for MPs and senators at the national level should pave the way for similar increment at the state level, instead of the other way around.
"It's weird when a state government took the lead in this matter. This is embarrassing," said the minister who also described the situation as a violation of the parliamentary ethics.
Last month, Selangor State Assembly passed the salary increment for its menteri besar, executive council members, state assembly speaker, deputy speaker and assemblymen, effective Jan 1, 2014.
Penang state government had also proposed a salary increment for its assemblymen from RM4,112.79 to RM6,000. — Bernama
The last time a revision was made on salary and allowance of MPs was seven or eight years ago, and compared to other developing nations, our PM, DPM and ministers receive the lowest. I believe they should get the pay rise.

Ooppsss... mind asking. Will there be special allowance or a hike in allowance for their 'isteri' since few of them are busier than any appointed minister!

FOOTNOTE: I believe Shahidan himself should thank Selangor and Penang for setting the pace for 'naik gaji'.

Insensitive!

Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is a happy man.

Just because only less than 10 per cent of about 500,000 property owners in Kuala Lumpur sent in letters of objection on the new assessment rate to be enforced by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) on January 1 next year, he took it as a YES!

After joining politics for over 30 years now, he still couldn't sense the sensitivity of those affected. And that explains why politicians like him always fail to help Barisan Nasional won most of the urban seats.
Less than 10% of about 500,000 property owners in the federal capital have sent letters of objection on the new assessment rate to be enforced by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) on Jan 1 next year.
Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (pic) said the number represented only about 40,000 property owners.
"We did not increase the rate to an amount that could burden the owners, although the prevailing value of properties is higher.
"DBKL is empowered to raise the rate every five years, but we had overlooked the matter all this while," he told reporters after presenting letters of offer to 50 tenants at 10 people's housing project (PPR) and public housing project (PPA) areas in the capital yesterday.
Its simple mathematic, Ku Nan!

The people ada actually blase, fed up! Regardless of how many objections were sent to DBKL, it will not stop the the council from enforcing what has been planned. Even if all property owners did so, it only reflects their protest because they knew that nothing could be done to stop of defer it.

A simple question - will DBKL jettison the plan if 40-50 per cent of the registered property owners are against it? Very unlikely, right?
