Posted: 07 Oct 2013 10:52 AM PDT Let me answer 'Did you really defend Tiga Line gang, Guan Eng asks Zahid', as someone who understands what the Home Minister was saying. I would also like to commend the Penang Chief Minister's stand for not jumping the gun to criticise the minister until an explanation is made. It reflects Guan Eng's political maturity in weighing such an issue, and such a stand is fully appreciated and respected. The Tiga Line Zahid mentioned (had he ever said it) in Melaka the other day only referred to a lawfully-registered organisation called Pekida (Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia), and not the one listed by Bukit Aman as being a gangster group. Pekida is well-known for its social and welfare activities in helping the Malays to uplift their living standard, and in carrying out voluntary services in occasion such as weddings, 'kenduri', death and community works. In Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka and Selangor, for instance, they also help the multiracial society to forge better understanding and cooperation by organising social activities for them. The original Pekida - established in 1967 - was never involved in any illegal activities until the splinter groups such as 77, Kumpulan Merah, Semerah Padi and others were formed. They are the ones using 'Tiga Line' tagline (once used by Pekida). Bear in mind that 'Tiga Line' no more reflects the original Pekida that encouraged good conduct (based on Islamic teaching) and the spirit of mutual respect among different race and religions. However, it is sad to note that the splinter groups are not only founded on wrong objectives but also deviated from Islamic teaching. Pekida has members nationwide, there are about 2 million of them, including senior government servants, members of PDRM, ATM and others. Their main focus is in helping the poor and closing the gaps among different ideologies in the Malay community. Tiga Line today also comprises of some groups where members are not only Malays but Chinese and Indians. They join hands to carry out illegal activities like getting protection money from petty traders, drugs, thugs and other immoralities. So, the 'Tiga Line' Zahid mentioned was Pekida, and not the bogus 'Tiga Line' groups. Those who understood it would pose no question but I believe many others need a simple explanation, including YAB Lim Guan Eng. Hope it clears the air. |
