Surveillance: Emulate IPD Ampang Jaya

Posted: 04 Jul 2013 06:32 PM PDT

The move by the Home Ministry to equip all police lock-ups and interrogation rooms with CCTV is yet  another major step to enhance surveillance and ensure no detainees become the subject of abuse.

While those hauled up for questioning (as criminal suspects or to help investigation) will be professionally attended to and in accordance with the existing SOP, the image of the police force, the ministry and the government will be further improved.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid told Dewan Rakyat recently that out of about 600 police stations and interrogation rooms nationwide, a total of 316 'balai' and interrogation rooms were installed with CCTV.

I think the next installation plan should take IPD Ampang Jaya as the module as it is best equipped with surveillance gadgets to monitor movements in the lock-up and interrogation room. This will avoid any incident, 'malpractice' and abuse that could lead to 'deaths in lock-up' and other incidents that could dampen PDRM good image.

IPD Ampang Jaya and its subordinating 'balai' such as Pandan Indah and Bukit Indah are also the 'most friendly' in the context of providing good treatments to the detainees and conducting a balanced-and-professional investigations.
KUALA LUMPUR (July 4): A total of 316 police lock-ups and 50 interrogation rooms have been installed with closed circuit television (CCTV), said Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"The CCTV installations in lock-ups were started since 2002 while the interrogation rooms were started in 2011," he said in a written answer to Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
Lip Eng had queried on the number of lock-ups and interrogation rooms which had been fitted with CCTVs, when they were installed and the cost involved.
Installation costs depended on the tender and offer price implemented by each police contingent based on their individual requirements, he said.
I also recommend IPD Ampang for not being bias and prejudice in its investigation, and for the officers' quick response to matters affecting the detainees.

Zahid and IGP Khalid Abu Bakar could at least consider making the IPD as 'a lead role' for others to emulate.

Khalid admits failure

Posted: 04 Jul 2013 02:18 AM PDT

Selangor Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim finally admitted the fact that his administration has failed to fulfill their manifesto promises made in 2008 at the state assembly sitting yesterday, a shame that took him five years to declare.

The MCA Publicity Bureau chairman, Datuk Heng Seai Kie stated in a press statement sent to The Malaysian Times (TMT), that prior to this, hundreds of Selangor citizens had protested and even filed legal charges against Khalid for various failed promises, such as not providing free water for high-rise residents and allocating allowances for housewives, senior citizens and single mothers just to name a few.

"However, due to his arrogance Khalid had dared to say that a manifesto is not a promise and as such there is no need to fulfill them," said Heng.

Heng said this proved that everything what the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) had said and every promises made are nothing but just election candies to win over the people's minds so that the PR can continue to stay in power.

Despite the fact that Khalid had also proudly announced an increase of Selangor's cash reserves to RM1.8 million this year, it is nothing to boast about when many of the Selangor citizens are still awaiting their promised help.

"There is no point saving millions in cash if none of it is used to help the people," stressed Heng.

Thus, Heng cited that  it was no surprise that even Khalid's own party comrades have seen it fit to criticise the state chief over his management of state funds.

Heng added, "Khalid must bear in mind that he is no longer running a company and a profiteering business, and that running a state is an entirely different chapter altogether as many factors come into play."

Heng then conclude that since Pakatan has been given the mandate to rule Selangor once again, it is thus hoped that Khalid has learnt from his past mistakes and will start treating his manifesto as a promise to the people, and not just a gimmick to entice voter support to enable his party to fulfill their own personal agenda.

NOTE: The blunder was highly expected!
