Musa Hasan's deadly prediction Posted: 11 Feb 2013 12:28 AM PST OMG! Another 'Arab Spring' prediction, and this time it came from former IGP Musa Hasan, a man whom we once trusted in maintaining public order and security, an experienced police boss who should really understand what a country like Malaysia is made off and how it differs from Tunisia, Egypt, Syria and Yemen. His prediction that the loser of the upcoming 13th general election would subscribe to the bloodiest Arab Spring riots and street demonstration is already causing uneasiness and worries to the public, especially voters. Musa is throwing a deadly imagination that could spark panic among Malaysians, and those who buy his words would start to prepare for the worst - buying firearm illegally, hording food supply and be ready for 'come what may'. This is extremely dangerous. The impact of his prediction could cause tense nationwide, especially after Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak dissolves the Parliament to pave the way for the national poll, expected between March and early June. I don't know on which side of politics Musa is but I believe Malaysians have had enough of bloodshed, racial backlash and bad political rows. Majority of the Malays, Chinese, Indians and others do understand that Malaysian politics will not lead to civil war and confrontation of any sorts. However, Musa looks so convinced that the Arab Spring will erupt in the country, putting leaders of Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat in the same boat as the heads of the warring factions in Syria, Yemen and Egypt. The former IGP also lamented that the fight to curb violent coups has been hindered with the repeal of the Internal Security Act (ISA), a British-enacted law that allowed detention without trial. The Act was recently repealed and replaced with another security law, as a part of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's promise to widen civil liberties.Yes, we cannot discount on the possibility that there would be some troubles after general election, especially when the opposition is all set and confidence of wresting Putrajaya from BN. It will be a 'do or die' game for Anwar Ibrahim's-led Pakatan Rakyat. PR could pose a danger here, and not BN. As ambition precedes their emotion, they have more potential to become troublemakers on a small scale. Unless they choose to register a violence one, the police and the army will be ready for them. I am also unsure what was Musa's motive when making the prediction but it didn't augur well in achieving racial assimilation and inter-religious understanding in the country. We have observe some teething problems to address the two most sensitive issues, and with such a prediction, I am afraid if some irresponsible politicians will use it as additive to their election campaign. Musa didn't really face much problem during his tenancy as the police IGP, hence making him looks inferior than Ismail Omar who braced two Bersih rallies and a few other related demonstrations. And I guess Musa wanted some credits by coming up with his own prediction. The rakyat will not allow anything to disrupt their peaceful life, the asset that has brought about prosperity and safety since Independence. Should any party embarks on such a dirty and filthy politics, I think the rakyat will be more ready than the police themselves in confronting them. But still, Musa's prophecy is rather inciting one to happen! |
