IRF : Dr Feisal Tehrani, Dr Mujahid Rawa & Dr Razak Idris

Posted: 23 Apr 2012 01:17 AM PDT

Yesterday I attended aseminar organized by Dr Farouk Musa's Islamic Rennaisance Front  titled "Islam : Keadilandan Kesetaraan".

The speakers were as per the title above.  Feisal Tehrani is a Shia guy, Mujahid Rawa isthat PAS guy (who is supposed to be a Salafi – he quoted Ibn Taymiyyah, but I don'tknow for sure). Razak Idris made himself known as a pro-Anwar Ibrahim guy aswell.

Except for Feisal Tehranithe other two speakers were heavily politicized. So quite understandably the "keadilanand kesetaraan" portion became quite skewed. More of this later.

We were earlier informedthat the seminar was a dialogue between the Shiahs, Salafis and Sunnis. It wasa bit of a letdown because the main topic was not about Shiahs, Sunnis andSalafis but "keadilan" etc.

However the first speaker, one Dr Feisal Tehrani – declared himself a Shiah and made no bones about hisShiah leanings. And quite predictably (for me), he was in attack mode againstthe Sunnis throughout the session.

In the first few minutes ofhis opening statement Feisal somehow managed to say that 'mengikut tradisiahlul bayt, Bilal bin Rabah mempunyai suara yang jelek'. I don't know where orwhy that came from.

Among the Sunnis, Bilal binRabah is believed to be a former Ethiopian slave who became the first muezzin.A muezzin is the guy who makes the five times a day call to prayer.  The muezzins are chosen for their powerful and/ or melodious voices.

Dr Feisal says the Shiah say that Bilal binRabah had a suara jelek or ugly voice. Oh well. Its just an opinion I guess –no one was there to hear his voice so we cant really know for certain what his voicewas really like.

Later Dr Feisal Tehrani alsosaid that he had visited Mashad in Iran where the mausoleum of one Shiah Imamfrom the Twelver Sect (Shiah Ithna Ashariyyah)  was actually "lebih besar daripada Masjidil Haram".   Anothercase of "mine is bigger than yours".

Dr Feisal also put MujahidRawa (the PAS guy) on the spot when he asked Mujahid why on the 6thof April, all the mosques in Selangor (which is now ruled by the Pakatan)conducted uniform sermons criticizing the Shiahs? Mujahid did not answer.

Later, when Mujahid spoke heforgot all about Feisal's question. He went on about the 'brutal majority'which is a by product of democracy. He was referring to Malaysia of course andhe was trying to accuse the BN of being the "brutal majority".

But he could not answerFeisal Tehrani's question why all the mosques in Selangor delivered sermons onthe 6th of April which condemned the Shiahs? The Shiahs are theminority and the Pakatan majority controls the mosques in Selangor.

Also the PAS, which is inthe minority in Parliament – they do not control Putrajaya – has called for the implementationof the PAS' own version of hudud laws (there are many versions of hudud).  It is the majority BN Government that iswithstanding this hudud onslaught by the PAS minority. So who is being brutal –the BN majority Government or the PAS minority ?

And in Selangor, the PAS hasdecided to ban cinemas in Bangi. The PAS is with the majority in Selangor. Again who is the brutal majority there?

In PAS controlled Kedah now, this whole fuss about the fatwas may just be a land grab. There may be masjidand surau land involved. The right fatwas may come in handy to gain thoselands. I told you folks, no money no religion. But it is a brutal majority inKedah now. Fatwas may not be questioned in any court of Law. Wow!!

Mujahid Rawa also said that theswitch from PAS' Negara Islam to Negara Kebajikan is just a  makeover, a change in the form(the label has been changed). The substance shall be the same. In short, PAShas been taking "camouflage" classes aka 'lets pull the wool'.

Throughout the threehour seminar, it was just more Club of Doom. Only one speaker, Mujahid Rawa, mentioned in passing only, two verses from the Quran. The other two speakersdid not refer or quote even one verse from the Quran. It was yet another "Islamic"seminar that was quite devoid of the Quran.  (How can we call ourselves Muslims when we ignore the Quran? Boleh ke?)

So, without referring to theQuran, apa lagi yang depa refer? Their own wild horse opinions (pemikiran kudaliar), wild ass speculation (rekaan keldai liar) and crazy elephant guesswork(tekaan gajah liar).

During question time, oneyoung man with a religious smirk on his face got up and said that there wasslavery in the Quran. This is a terrible fitrnah against the Quran. There is nosuch thing as slavery in the Quran.

The word raqeeb means slave.By the usage of this word in the Quran and its context the message is clear –the Quran does not condone slavery.

For example, the Quran describesrighteous behavior in 2:177  :   "Righteousness is notturning your faces towards the east or the west. Righteous are those whobelieve in GOD, the Last Day, the angels, the scripture, and the prophets; andthey give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, thetraveling alien, the beggars, and to free the slaves (riqaabi).."

It is righteous to free theslaves.  The Quran does not say free themtomorrow, next week or next year.  The context  is always now - immediately. Why? Because theopposite of  righteousness is cruel, oppressive, mean, bad, un-righteousness etc.

You want to stop being cruel, oppressive, mean, bad and un-righteous immediately. You also want to becomerighteous immediately. So there is no slavery (raqeeb) in the Quran.

For those of you Muslims whoinsist that there is slavery in the Quran, well  congratulations – you have justbecome anti Quran and anti-hadith as well. Why anti-hadith? Because the Quran saysit is is the "ahsana al hadeeth" or the best hadith. Don't believe me? Here isthe Quran again:

Surah 39:23 Allah hasrevealed herein the best hadith (Allahu nazzala ahsana al hadeeth); a book thatis consistent (kitaaban mutashabihan  ), ….."

If you believe in slavery youare also saying that you do not wish to be righteous. The religious people donot know the basics of what is in the Quran. Devoid of the truth in the Quran, they fly off on their wild horse escapades into the Club of Doom. More of thishere.

Ahlul Bayt

Going back to the Shiah speaker,Dr Feisal Tehrani he made a big deal about the ahlul bayt. To the Shiah theahlul bayt is a very big thing. They say that ahlul bayt refers to members ofthe Prophet's family. They say that it is only the Prophet's family whodeserved to succeed the Prophet.

First of all this is akin tothe feudal monarchical system where blood relations are  more important than talent or capacity.  Succession shall be determined by blood alone. This is not a very clever thing to do.

Secondly, there is no clergyor religious succession in the Quran or Islam. There is no such thing as 'onlythe Prophet's family shall succeed him'. Succeed the Prophet in doing what?

Muslims believe the Prophet  was chosen by Allah as a Rasul or Messenger. Oncehe dies, his job function as a messengers and prophet dies with him. It is nota hereditary role. His son or daughter cannot take over as Prophet or Rasul. Only Allah can appoint Prophets and Rasuls. So how can anyone replace a Prophet or Rasul by right of birth?

In Catholicism it isdifferent. The Pope claims to be the successor to Jesus Christ or thevicegerent of Christ. In Arabic a vicegerent is a khalifa. So the Catholic Popeis the khalifa of Jesus Christ. This is not unlike the Shiah belief that onlythe ahlul bayt (which they claim is the Prophet's family) can succeed the Prophet.

There is no such thing as a "vicegerentor khalifa of the Prophet"  in Islam. TheCaliphs or khalifahs who ruled after the Prophet were just ordinary people whofilled a political and administrative role. That was all.

However the shiahs do pointto a verse in the Quran to justify their belief that the ahlul bayt refers tothe family of the Prophet.

Here are the verses :

33: 32 - 33     O wives of the prophet, you are not thesame as any other women, if you observe righteousness.  Therefore, you shall not speak too softly, lest those with disease in their hearts may get the wrong ideas; you shallspeak only righteousness.  (33)  You shall settle down inyour homes, and do not display yourselves excessively, like you used to do inthe old days of ignorance. You shall uphold the salat and perform zakat, andobey GOD and His messenger. GOD wishes to remove from you the uncleanness (of)the ahlul bayt  and to purify youcompletely.

Here is 33:33 again

Waqarna fee buyootikunna –you shall settle in your homes
walaa tabarrajna tabarruja –and do not display yourselves excessively
al jahiliyyati al-oola – like the earlier days of ignorance
waaqimna al salaata – and upholdthe salat
waateena al zakaata – and giveto your zakat
wati'na-llaaha wa rasoolahu –and obey Allah and the messenger

innama yureedu Allahu –surely Allah wishes

liyuthhiba – to remove

ankumu – from you

alrrijsa – the uncleanness of

ahlul  bayti  -the ahlul bayt

wayutahhirakum – and tocleanse you
tatheeran - thoroughly

Now it appears here thatAllah is telling the wives of the Prophet (33:32) that He wishes to cleansethem FROM the uncleanness of the ahlul bayt !!

The ahlul bayt are not clean??  If so, this also means that the Prophets wives should not be part of the ahlul bayt described in 33:33 above.

I found thisquite different from what the religious people have been telling us all thistime. So I searched the Quran for other similar verses or similar language.

And this is what I found.  Here is Surah 8:11.

Surah 8:11    When He covered you with peaceful slumber and He sent down upon you water from the sky to clean you therewith and to remove from you from the uncleanness of the satan, and reassured upon your hearts and strengthenedyour foothold.

Iz yughashshikumu : When Hecovered you
Alnu 'assa amanatan minhu : withpeaceful slumber
wayunazzilu alaykum : andsent down upon you
mina al sama-i ma'an : fromthe sky water
li yutah-hirakum bihi : to cleanseyou with it
wayuth-hiba : and to remove
ankum : from you
rijza : the uncleanness of
al shaytani : the satan
waliyarbita ala quloobikum : and reassured upon your hearts
wayuthabbita bihi al-aqdama: and strengthened your foothold

Lets put these two versesside by side, so that you can double check much easier:

Surah 8:11 'yuz-hiba ankum alrijza al shaytaan'  means "remove from you the uncleanness of  the satan"

Similarly, in Surah 33:33 thealmost same words 'yuz-hiba ankumu al rijsa ahlul bayt' means "remove from you theuncleanness of the ahlul bayt.."

The Shiah folks really needto relook the meaning of ahlul bayt  vis a vis Surah 8:11 and Surah 33:33 above.

Another little detail is theword shiah itself.  Shiah means sect, faction, a party.

The word shiah appears 11times in the Quran.  You can find them at6:65, 6:159, 15:10, 19:69, 28:4, 28:15 (twice) 30:32, 34:54, 37:83, 54:51.

In the Quran, except for onemention of the Shiah of Noah, ALL   the other occurrences of the word shiah carrya negative connotation. Here they are :

6:65  To confuse you into shiah (sects) and to makeyou taste the violence of each other
(The shiah or sects are confused and end up in violence. How true).

6:159 those who divide thedeen and become shiah (sects) do not belong with you
(Those who divide their deeninto shiah or sects do not belong with the Prophet. A terrible fate.)

28:4  Pharaoh ..was arrogant and divided the peopleinto shiah (sects)
(A shiah or sect was a  "divide and rule" tool used by Pharaoh)

28:15 two men were fighting, onefrom his own shiah (sect); the one from his shiah (sect) called for his help
(When Moses was a member ofPharaoh's household, he was fooled by a sly fellow from his own shiah or sectinto killing another man. At that time Moses had not received any revelations from Allah.)

30:32 Those who dividedtheir deen and became divided into shiah (sects) - each party rejoicing in whatthey had.

34:54   Consequently, they were deprived of everything they longed for. This is the same fate asthe shiah (sects) in the previous generations. They harbored too many doubts.
(There were shiah or sects in previous generations who harbored too many doubts)

37:83 of (Noah's)  shiah (party) was also Abraham

And here is the lastreference to shiah in the Quran :

54:49  Everything we created is precisely measured.
54:50  Our commands are done within the blink of an eye.
54:51  We annihilated your shiah (sects). Does any of you wish to learn?

So these are ALL the occurrencesof the word Shiah in the Quran.

As I said, other than the mention of the shiahor party of Noah in 37:83 above, all the other occurrences of the word shiah in the Quran (even referring to Moses) arebad, very bad.

I hope the Shiah brotherswill read this carefully. They can communicate with me if they wish.

Kedah Tunku Laksamana lodges police report over fatwa enactment

Posted: 22 Apr 2012 08:27 AM PDT

ALOR SETAR: Tunku Laksamana Kedah, Tunku Mansor Tunku Kassim lodged a police report on Sunday over the Kedah State Legislative Assembly's amending of an enactment giving absolute power to the state mufti and fatwa comittee.

"I am making this report because I fear the enactment will usurp the powers of the Sultan of Kedah, who is the head of Islam in the state," he told reporters after lodging the report at the Alor Setar police headquarters at 9.30am here.

The state assembly recently amended Section 22A of the Kedah Mufti and Fatwa Committee Enactment 2008 to give the mufti and fatwa committee unlimited powers over Muslims in the state.

Following the amendment, all decisions by the mufti and the fatwa committee need not be gazetted and cannot be challenged in any court, whether syariah or civil. - Bernama
