Posted: 10 Jan 2014 02:58 AM PST UPDATE: Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar wishes for a return of the Internal Security Act (ISA) as the law will provide better security for the people. "Current laws such as SOSMA is good but what is the harm of having additional laws such as the ISA. I am supportive of the ISA and any law that could assist the police in making the country safer," he told a press conference in Bukit Aman on Friday. ORIGINAL POSTING: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has again called for the reinstating of the Internal Security Act (ISA) to control the actions of extremist minority groups in the country. I remember the shock and discontentment when PM Najib made the announcement repeal it during a function at Angkasapuri in late 2012 - only to the delight of the opposition. And now that national security is again on the brink of turning the country upside down, I believe we need to be 'a little bit harsh' to control it before it explodes in our face. KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday suggested that the government bring back the repealed Internal Security Act (ISA) to control the actions of the extremist minority who, he said, had undermined the country's stability.Yes, I totally agree with him that when we relaxed some rules and regulations, it provides the extremist groups with the opportunity to test it to the maximum. However, I have yet to see the effectiveness of the replacement act... does it provide the police with sufficient power? |
