Posted: 28 Dec 2013 09:35 PM PST In an article supporting the use of 'Allah' by Christians, 'political scientist' Dr Wong Chin Huat from Penang, ridicules PM Najib by writing: First, if Bahasa Melayu is exclusive for Islam, can it still be the national language? Second, if yes, is the political agenda of promoting Bahasa Melayu as the national language to eventually make every Malaysian national a Muslim? Coming from a 'political scientist' (is he?), his statement is very disorientating. He himself is a confused man. Any other Malaysians will know that Bahasa Malaysia has nothing to do with Islam. Bahasa Malaysia, just like English and Japanese, is not the language of any religion. But Arabic is the only language for al-Quran. Is is fair to say that those who study English are Christians? I am taking a neutral stand in this 'Allah' issue but when he likens the government's effort in encouraging all Malaysians to take up Bahasa Malaysia as 'trying to Islamise them', I found his intellectuality as a 'political scientist' drops to zero. And it makes me wonder if he is a Malaysian and speaks Bahasa Malaysia as well! In response to Najib's call, outgoing Catholic Archbishop Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam has asked Najib to drop the Allah ban. He prays that Najib will be a uniting statesman rather than "a bickering politician".He can continue supporting the Christians - nothing's wrong with that. However, making such an allegation about 'learning Bahasa Malaysia is akin to embracing Islam' is a pure racist and anti-Islam. Did anybody in Penang engage him to write such a nonsense? So, please wake up and stop complicating the matter. Most importantly, don't add confusion to it. It was a 'cruel and dangerous statement' you made out there... and foolish too! |
