Hindu gods on beer bottles!

Lucky it didn't take place here in Malaysia, where religious sensitivity is always high. However, some parties enjoy toying it around, for politics and cheap publicity.

I believe Hindus around the world are fuming red over brewery companies in the United States and Australia pictured their favorite gods on beer products.

As a Muslim, I deplore such act as overboard and despicable, especially when interfaith understanding and respect are being promoted all over the world by leaders of various religions namely Christian, Islam, Hindu, Buddhist, etc.

In Australia, Brookvale Union, a brewery in New South Wales has a juxtaposed image of Hindu god Ganesha's head and Hindu goddess Lakshmi body on its beer ginger bottle (above pic).

In the US, Oregon-based brewery company Burnside has decided to postpone the limited release of 'Kali-ma' beer after massive Hindu protest.

Burnside announced on their Facebook:

"...In response to pleas from the Hindu community we have decided to postpone the limited release of "Kali-ma" our imperial wheat ale flavored with Indian spices and Scotch-Bonnet peppers. It is never our intention at Burnside to offend or alienate any race, creed, religion or sexual orientation. The inspiration for the beer label simply came from a favorite childhood movie in the "Indiana Jones" series and we were unaware that it could be offensive to anyone. We are currently scrambling to re-name the beer and intend to release it soon afterwards... to anyone we have offended we sincerely apologize... Sincerely, the crew and ownership of Burnside Brewing."

I wonder what was the motive of the two companies but after reading from various sources, I found out that they couldn't care less about religious sensitivity. And what is the general feeling of Australians and Americans about it?

I don't really know...

However, Islam has been the center of Western mockery. Allah and Prophet Muhammad are popular among their book writers and cartoonist, depicting the latter to the worst character. In Denmark and Sweden, for instant, no legal action can be taken against those who create religious tension.

In Malaysia, such people will find themselves a subject of strict law. No compromise! But even with such a stringent rule, many do no like it for 'human rights' reason!
