| Posted: 28 Aug 2013 10:24 AM PDT Penang State Government under Lim Guan Eng has issued orders to all cinema operators in the state not to screen the 'controversial' Tanda Putera (a Malay production) which will hit the big screen nationwide today. Three weeks ago, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi put a gag to the screening of 'The New Village', another controversial Malaysian-Chinese-made movie.  Adoiiii... Too much controversies and sensitivities. Malays against the Chinese, Chinese against the Malays, Malays against Indians... yada... yada... yada! We are about to celebrate our 56th Merdeka Day, two days from now. Patriotism is fast diminishing from most Malaysians; prejudice gets thicker instead. What is going to happen a year from now or in between our march to attain a fully-developed nation status? Will the divide gets wider and will Malaysians embroil themselves in things like these until a civil war breaks out? Talk about films and movies. I think we better close all the cinemas, lets concentrate on the U-Tube since all sorts of movies are available. Subscribe to satellite TV if we want to watch those controversy films, including that of foreign production. Why worry?  The government is not making much money from cinema license. Finas, a government embodiment which is tasked to help boost local production, is bias and is in the hands of self-interest people, giving away grants to those they only prefer and like. Lets import more movies - Bahasa movies from Indonesia, Mandarin and Kantonis from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China, Hindi and Tamil from India, English from many sources, Korean, Japanese, just name it. You want 'blue movie', its always free on the Internet. Besides, local cinemas are controlled by the same group of people. Any new application will get booted. Only 'samseng' have the privilege to have it. Ordinary people (like me) and those without political connection will remain 'end users', having to pay this and that to get what we want on the big or small screens. Our regulators always submit to the hands of the big brothers of any industry. For examples, no else would be issued the contract to supply and lit fireworks during Merdeka, Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Hari Wilayah and other celebrations. It goes to the Indian entrepreneurs. No one else should apply the license to import Chinese-based movies, except the only one 'apek' who is already filthy rich. And of course, no non-Malays are allowed to import dates or 'kurma' for Hari Raya except this one or two Malays. At the ministerial level, for instance, the same director-general of an agency under the Home Ministry gets the contact to supply Agensi Anti-Dadah Kebangsaan (AADK) with urine drug test straps every year, and at the Health Ministry, the same company belongs to a small group of senior officers gets the contract to supply medical equipments to hospitals. However, this is the system, since then and up to now. Major contracts are awarded to the same pool of companies without any open tender. Any attempt by others with compatible capability will have to go into series of 'this and that test', and will get a small chunk of it, if lucky enough. And what about who and who gets and controls supply contracts for Pusat Latihan Khidmat Negara (PLKN), who awarded his son-in-law to supply the latest Kawasaki bikes to PDRM and who got the contract under the failed 6P program? You want answers to all this? No need la. All this are the games of 'anak wayang'. There are too many of them around. So, without the cinemas, are can still enjoy watching all types of movie act 'live' around us. Aren't we already well-entertained?  |
