Tactical Nuclear Weapons

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 01:55 AM PST

A tactical nuclear weapon (or TNW) refers to a nuclear weapon which is designed to be used on a battlefield in military situations.

This is as opposed to strategic nuclear weapons which are designed to menace large populations, to damage the enemy's ability to wage war or for general deterrence.

Small, two-man portable, or truck-portable, tactical weapons (sometimes misleadingly referred to as suitcase nukes), such as the Davy Crockett recoilless rifle have been developed. Here is a Davy Crockett Recoilless Rifle:

In wartime, such explosives could be used for demolishing "choke-points" to enemy offensives, such as at tunnels, narrow mountain passes, and long viaducts.

Other tactical nuclear weapons include earth penetrating weapons which are designed to target enemy-held caves or deep-underground bunkers.

The yield of tactical nuclear weapons is generally lower than that of strategic nuclear weapons

Negative Publicity For Syria & Malaysia

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 12:02 AM PST

Here is some news about Syria :

Syrian fighting decimates tourism industry
  • International flights - as of Friday -  flights have stopped.
  • .. all flights cancelled when government jets bombed rebels close to airport.
  • Damascus fighting cuts off airport
  • tourism industry has been decimated by fighting
  • Tourism responsible for five percent of Syria's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2011
  • directly supported 270,000 jobs
  • Habbab's agency marketed week-long tours
  • has laid-off  90 of his 100 employees.
This news about Syria just appeared on the Internet. The fact that you are reading it now is evidence enough that news travels almost instantly. Bad news especially travels super fast. There is a reason for this. People do not want to lose their lives, lose their loved ones, lose money, lose business or suffer losses when some Islamic country is fighting. That is why when anything bad happens, everyone shares the information.

Five per cent of Syria's GDP is based on tourism. 270,000 people are employed in the tourism sector. They can now eat grass.

Unfortunately many Muslims do not care. For them they will say, "So what"? They are not involved in business anyway. It is other peoples' business.  Even if they have to  eat grass, so what?  If they dont care, should anyone else care? How do you help a people who really dont want to be helped?

Not just Syria but Malaysia also suffers bad publicity which costs us money and opportunities. Just search 'Malaysian shariah police' on Yahoo and you will see the following :

These are just some of the 'specialist' websites (especially Jihadwatch) which monitors 'jihadist' news all over the Islamic world.  You may not think much about these websites but for many Western and other people, including media writers, they frequently read Jihadwatch and other such sites to see what is the next trouble spot in the Islamic world.  In other words if Malaysia appears on these websites, it is not good for us.

When churches get attacked, non-Muslim hair dressing salons get raided, teenagers who are horsing around get slapped with summons etc tour agencies may not want to put us on their map.

Cruise ships may not want to stop over, investors may opt for Vietnam or Singapore and things like that. People will avoid us. Everything counts. Everything adds up. But looking at the dungguism of the religious folks and those who are reliiously inclined, they will not care.

Why should they care? Money flows from the country's oil revenues. Tiap bulan dapat gaji. If there is no rain, they can pray for rain at the Kota Bharu stadium behind the tok guru. Or, they  can just blame it on fate. Its all fate.  If they jump into the river with a labu, it will also be fate.

Desecrating The Memory Of Martin Luther King Jr

Posted: 11 Dec 2012 08:27 PM PST

Martin Luther King Jr was never jailed. The reason is quite simple. Martin Luther King did not panic and order the local Police to arrest and torture some young woman who had spilled the beans on any affairs and homosexual escapades he may have had. No such thing happened.

There were no young women who were arrested and tortured for spilling any beans like that. So Martin Luther King was not jailed for six years or nine years etc.

Then there is the unbelievable stupidity. Martin Luther King did not leave a trail of evidence which led directly to him and proved beyond doubt in a Court of Law that he did indeed order the local Police to hunt down, arrest, torture and then extract a retraction from some young woman that her accusations about his sexual escapades were not true. That would be a great travesty of justice. Martin Luther King was not the type of depraved human being who would indulge in such things.

Martin Luther King was never in a situation where nine lawyers, including some of the most rude, kurang ajar, ill mannered, "mother don't know father's name" type of lawyers using the rudest and crudest language in Court to provoke the judge, insult the Court and pulling all sorts of legal stunts still could not destroy simple (and really, really stupid) evidence like

i.             The forced "retraction" letter was dispatched to the Post Office
ii.            taken behind the Post Office counter
iii.           then the stamp was 'chopped' by hand by the postal clerk (something never
done since the Post Office was automated in the 1970s) and then
iv.           finally delivered to the PM's Office.

Why all this trouble to deliver a letter to the PM's office? What happened to FedEx or UPS or CityLink?  The person who took the letter, the postal clerk who chopped the stamp and the reception clerk at the PM's office all trooped into Court and gave evidence complete with stamping records, signed acknowledgment receipts and such. The evidence trail was solid. Martin Luther King would not have been that stupid to leave behind such a trail of bread crumbs leading directly to him.

Martin Luther King was an outstanding champion of freedom and liberty. Martin Luther King was never caught on uncensored videos in the company of young Chinese girls who are obviously victims of human trafficking as well.

Neither did Martin Luther King lose his Rolex watch and then get his wife to make the most silly statements to the Press to cover his tracks.

Martin Luther King did not steal millions and billions of public funds or pass millions and billions to his cronies and then declare himself a reformist (ptuihhh!!), a freedom  fighter, an honest person, an anti corruption crusader (ptuihh!!) and other such despicable lies.

Finally Martin Luther King never appealed to the unthinking morons, the racists, the religious freaks, the prejudiced, those with a chip on the shoulder, or an axe to grind to sustain his struggle. The rabble rousers, the rednecks, the hicks, the lynch mobs and morons were on the other side - opposing Martin Luther King. King appealed to a higher sense of decency  to liberate his people.

Martin Luther King was not a scoundrel.  So it would be in very bad taste to compare Martin Luther King to such a scoundrel.

No More Announcements In Mandarin At Stations

Posted: 11 Dec 2012 06:58 PM PST

I received this from a Blog reader (initials 'mfc') who says she is Chinese.

Dear Syed,
Came across this interesting article in the Star...

TRANSPORT operator SMRT (Singapore) has brought an abrupt halt to announcing station "names" in Mandarin in addition to English, amid an online debate over the issue.
It had said initially that the Mandarin announcements on some trains were a trial which began in October and would go on until next month. But the trial ended on Wednesday.
The issue has stirred much discussion online. In a Nov 30 Facebook post, local writer Ng Yi Sheng, 32, said he felt the move was to "accommodate the growing number of Chinese-speaking immigrants" here and that his non-Chinese friends found it "deeply alienating". His post went viral.
Others asked why this was being done now, as station "names" have long been announced only in English on SMRT trains. Some asked if the operator would consider announcing "names" in Singapore's other two official languages, Malay and Tamil.
An SMRT said that it had started the trial after receiving "considerable public feedback suggesting we announce station names in Mandarin to assist passengers, especially older citizens, who rely on announcements during their journey".
It considered announcements in all four languages, but found that the Malay and Tamil pronunciations of many station names were similar to English.
The spokesman said: "Some station names in Mandarin, however, sound very different. Take for instance, City Hall (Zheng Fu Da Sha), Somerset (Suo Mei Sai), Redhill (Hong Shan), Lakeside (Hu Pan) and Pioneer (Xian Qu).
"So, we started a trial that included in-train Mandarin announcements of the station names on some trains on our North-South and East-West lines from the first week of October."
Among those who did not agree with the SMRT move was Member of Parliament Zaqy Mohamad, chairman of the Communications and Information Government Parliamentary Committee.
Commenting on its explanation that the use of Mandarin was meant to help older citizens, he said: "I'm sure there are elderly Malays or Indians who may have the same difficulty and can be helped." — The Straits Times / Asia News Network"
Here is a follow thru comment by the Blog reader mfc :
  • Now, can you imagine if this were to happen in Malaysia? Can you imagine if MAHB decided that there would no longer be flight information announcements in Mandarin?
  • All our "We're Malaysia First, Chinese Second" hypocrites would be screaming blue murder and claiming it to be yet another case of blatant discrimination by the Umno ruled government and a failure of the MCA to defend Chinese culture in Malaysia, or some crap like that lah.
  • Will these same hypocrites take their case to Singapore and stand side by side with Singapore Chinese to press for their "mother tongue" rights? Oh no! Wait! They can't! Because even Singapore Chinese were against the Mandarin announcements on MRT trains.
  • With Hong Kong and China mainland Chinese both pressing for more English in the education curriculum, and now Singapore Chinese against Mandarin announcements on MRT trains, I have therefore come to the conclusion that the only true blue Chinese in this entire world are those living in Malaysia.
  • Proud to be Malaysian First! In case some of your readers don't get it, the previous line was sarcasm ok.
  • Thanks.  Regards,  (yes, i am chinese!)
My comments : People are getting too worked up over every little thing. I feel that the Singapore MRT need not announce the stations in all four languages. English and Mandarin will be enough. I always believe in being practical. Everyone in Singapore understands English or Mandarin.

In the LRT in Malaysia, Malay and English are enough. Everyone in Malaysia understands Malay. And there are so many tourists and foreigners in the country - most of whom can understand basic English.

Why do we make announcements on trains, planes and buses? To give people information and directions. That is all. Just like the street signs. Street signs, LRT and airport announcements are not places to show off ethnicity, religious supremacy and other such crap.

I agree with the points by mfc. There is too much paranoia among people over everything. There is a very simple reason for all this. Lack of respect and lack of trust.

People dont give the due respect for the other person's rights. This is the beginning of all problems. And there is not much effort done by each and every individual person to earn your neighbour's trust. We need to teach this in the schools - especially in Malaysia.

Every country has its own special problems to deal with. To me Malaysia is the most unique, fantastic, mixed up bag of nuts on the surface of the earth.  We have our problems. We have to teach a subject in school or incorporate it into the curriculum - how to respect your neighbours and other human beings and how to earn peoples' trust.

Respect your neighbour and earn their trust.  Plus we also need to seriously teach people from young that 'we need all human beings'. Also 'pelanggan kita bukan musuh kita'. (My wife and I ran into more of this recently.)

Thank you mfc who sent me this.  We need more honest writing like yours which are critical of some (not all) members of your own community.  Honesty should build strong bridges.
