FZ.com balancing act

Posted: 02 Dec 2012 06:10 PM PST

Its just another news portal. At the very beginning it was hard to distinguish which direction it was going but over the past few weeks, I notice it sways more towards the opposition, and soon will join the likes of Malaysia Chronicle and Mkini if they choose to be one.

It also publishes news story about BN but almost all are 're-angled' and 're-hatched', engineered to their whim and fancy so that it gives the impression that the ruling party is in bad shapes. There are more analysis about PR than BN.

However, there are days when they come up with good and straight forward BN stories, especially during the just-concluded Umno General Assembly.

The contents are quite balanced - foreign news, sports, art & culture, etc although the layout looks very, very familiar to me. It resembles the JPost.

I hope I am not promoting FZ.COM but I guess many have come across the news portal, believed to have a 'close and special link' with financial newspaper The Edge. Its editorial message says:
"...a vibrant website that offers news and views across a wide spectrum of subjects. We are thoughtful and incisive in reporting on issues of national and international importance. Our news portal delivers free content in a timely and easy manner, including events touching on the lighter side of life. It's free, fair and fun..."
After going through the portal by its content and other aspects, I sum up that their tagline should read, 'others manipulate, we articulate!'

If its connection with The Edge is confirmed, the owner is easy to trace. Its Tong Kooi Ong. A FZ.COM staff whom I called earlier did not confirm nor deny it.

Good for Tong, if its true. While The Edge is already into politics, disengaging itself from a '100 per cent economic appearance', FZ.COM will save him many things - politic, business and reputation.

A good balancing act!

(NOTE: I believe Tong is a smart businessman. His balancing act will not harm him should Pakatan Rakyat wins the next general election. Under BN too, he is okay)

Nurul 'hates' the police

Posted: 02 Dec 2012 03:01 AM PST

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah must have 'hated' the police so much that she suggested for PDRM put a freeze on its new intake.

Or she doesn't trust the police at all!

Why must we freeze the police intake when the existing 110,000 personnel is not... repeat... NOT ENOUGH to attend to rising security demand by about 28 million Malaysians? Going by ratio, one policeman will look after 254 Malaysians.

But wait!

We actually have about 34 million people, including about 6 million foreigners who study, work and live in the country. Considering the figure, each police personnel has to attend to 309 people at one time, and that is not an easy.

And why must we follow the guideline set by the Interpol? Does Nurul know who controls and operates Interpol? Hmmm.... she should do some homework... but I do understand why the Opposition likes making comparison with foreign governments and their agencies!

Come on, YB! Please ask any of your friends in Singapore, the US and some other countries - what is the ratio population to police do they have! Are they subscribing to Interpol's guidelines?

We, Malaysians owe the police a lot for keeping the country safe and stable. Even some opposition leaders need more than a policeman to look after their safety, making gradual rounds in the neighborhood where they stay, thus denying other areas that need more observation.

The opposition too is so good at lashing out at PDRM weakness when they know very well that the force is understrength (not enough personnel).

How many times had the opposition expressed sympathy or condolences to policemen getting hurt, injured and died while carrying out their duties for the rakyat? What have Pakatan Rakyat done to help the widows and children of the policemen who died at the hands of robbers, drug dwellers and others?

We all should learn how to appreciate the police duty. Yes, a few of them are just 'rascals' but they are normally dealt with accordingly.

Without or apart from the police, who does Nurul expect to safeguard the nation?

Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM)?

Whether we are on BN or PR side, we must put security matters above all. The policemen are just human who attend to their duty. If we don't respect and appreciate their contribution, may as well we live without a police force.

We better take care of our own self!

By the way, will Pakatan retain the number of police personnel should they take over Putrajaya in the next general election?

I doubt it!
