Malaysians Please Dont Embarass Me Posted: 08 Sep 2012 10:06 PM PDT Well another potentially embarrassing social event is about to take place next week. Some Mat Salleh folks are coming to visit the country and the local batch of Kipling's children are going all agog about it.  Choo reckons William will love the fruit  Give them a taste of Malaysia! That is what both Datuk Jimmy Choo would like to do during Prince William and Princess Catherine's inaugural visit to the country. Choo said if he had the opportunity, he would host a durian feast for Prince William Choo said while he was not well-acquainted with Princess Catherine, or Kate  Yup the British couple are coming and too many people are falling over themselves already to play the jester. Another guy said that he had 'breakfast with Kate'.  Must have been a life changing event. Little things do excite little minds. Unfortunately it can get quite embarrassing. I recall once when Ramsey Clark the former US Secretary of State under President John F Kennedy was here. (He used to travel here often in the 90s). At one public talk, one local Dato was quite thrilled to be the MC to introduce a Mat Salleh.   The Dato guy spoke in a fake American accent and told the audience, 'You can ask questions now but please keep your questions brief'. Which was the right thing to say. Then he turned to Ramsey Clark and with a swagger and the fake American accent said, "And Ramsey, I hope you will keep your answers equally brief !!"  I almost fell off my chair laughing - not only because of the inappropriate statement - but because of the expression on Ramsey Clark's face. Macam terkejut beruk.  They dont teach you this in school and neither can you read it in books. It was just not the right thing to say.  Well I hope when Mr and Mrs Kate Middleton are here next week, the natives will not commit  too many faux pas.  Feed them the durians but please dont tell them 'This is our king of fruits. It tastes like heaven but it smells like s**t'.   That would be inappropriate as well.
