Posted: 06 May 2014 10:51 AM PDT Muslims must not celebrate New Year and utter 'Merry Christmas' to the Christians, according to an Indonesian scholar. Irena Handano, manager of the Chinese Muslim Association said the Muslims around the world already have their new year or calendar, Hijrah, to celebrate. Wishing 'Merry Christmas', she said is wrong because it means Jesus is born. Alamak! I've been wishing other Malaysians of non-Muslim 'Merry Christmas', 'Gong Xi Fa Cai', 'Happy Deepavali', 'Happy Vasakthi' and 'Selamat Hari Thaipusam' since I learned what Malaysian mix-culture is. Have I sinned? Recently, there was also another 'ruling' that the Muslims should not utter 'rest in peace' or RIP to any non-Muslim who dies. Yes, I am a Muslim...and also a Malaysian. What else is wrong, not right and improper? Means we cannot attend any CNY, Christmas or Deepavali open house after this. Even prime minister Najib Tun Razak and the rest of his Muslim Cabinet members must stop the tradition! To our Muslim scholars, please lead us... |
