YDSM denies involvement in 'Antartica tour' Posted: 24 Jan 2014 10:35 AM PST Yayasan Diraja Sultan Mizan (YDSM) yesterday denied any involvement whatsoever in organising Mentri Besar Ahmad Said's visit to the Antartica. A statement issued by YDSM executive secretary Mohd Azrul Ismail said the visit had nothing to do with the Yayasan (Foundation). KUALA LUMPUR, 24 Jan (Bernama) -- Yayasan DiRaja Sultan Mizan (YDSM) Jumaat menafikan ia menganjurkan lawatan Menteri Besar Terengganu Datuk Seri Ahmad Said ke Antartika. I don't want to add what the Opposition had said about the 'tour' but if the Mentri Besar is away, someone should issue a statement before the rakyat get confused... Keep your personal opinion to yourself, Ku Nan! Posted: 24 Jan 2014 04:38 AM PST If it was a personal opinion, better keep it to yourself and don't say anything to the media. As a minister, anything you say is news! That's what happened to Ku Nan when his 'personal opinion' about 'RON95 fuel should go to the poor only' drew excitement (for a few hours) before PM Najib denied it while former premier Tun Dr Mahathir described it as ridiculous and difficult to implement. Doesn't matter if The Star 'misreported him' (which I don't think so) because Malaysian Insider got it too but he should be more careful next time whenever he wants to open up his mouth on matters not pertaining to his portfolio! What Datuk Seri Najib said: KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today said the government has not made any decision to restrict the sale of the RON95 petrol only to the poor. "No, we had not made any such decision," he said when asked by journalists on the matter after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting at the party headquarters here today. Several news reports on Thursday had quoted Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor as saying that the subsidised RON95 petrol was expected to be made available only for the poor in an effort to tighten government's spending and ensure subsidies were only to be benefited by deserving Malaysians. Tengku Adnan who was also present at the press conference said he had clarified the matter and that what he had said was not correctly reported. What Dr Mahathir said: KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 — A proposal to reduce subsidy spending by selectively restricting the sale of RON95 petrol will be difficult to implement, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today. The former prime minister pointed out the complexity involved in qualifying one group from another to determine who should be allowed to purchase the subsidised fuel. "It is difficult to separate who is considered rich and who is poor," the former prime minister told reporters at a news conference here. Yesterday, The Star newspaper reported Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor as saying that Putrajaya was in the process of devising a scheme to bar the sales of subsidised RON95 to those who could afford the more expensive RON97 petrol. "We want to impose the increase to only those who can afford it. Someone may drive a (Toyota) Alphard or even a Mercedes (Benz) but they still use RON95 petrol. "Although this subject was proposed several times in the past but we will be implementing it now after we find a correct method of applying it," the minister was quoted as saying at Menara DBKL here yesterday by the newspaper. Tengku Adnan said the matter was still being studied by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, but did not disclose details on how the system will be implemented. According to The Star, Tengku Adnan said the scheme could be rolled out as early as May.
What Ku Nan said today: KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 — Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today denied a media report quoting him as saying that Putrajaya will restrict sales of the subsidised RON95 petrol to "poor" people, stressing that he was merely expressing a personal opinion. The federal territories minister also said it was a suggestion on the study being conducted by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) under the Prime Minister's Department to ensure fuel subsidies that cost the government RM24.8 billion last year are better targeted at those who most need them. "I just gave an example that RON95 is subsidised... so the government is looking at how to solve the problem so that only the deserving ones should use that," Tengku Adnan told The Malay Mail Online today. "I don't know what EPU is going to come up with... they are doing a study now," he added.
Call it an anti-climax personal opinion! And just because of that 'personal opinion', read how the Opposition whacked him via Harakah Daily: KUALA LUMPUR: Rakyat bakal sekali lagi menjadi mangsa penipuan kerajaan apabila Menteri Wilayah Persekutuan, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (Ku Nan) mengumumkan dasar harga baru RON95 akan berkuatkuasa pada Mei atau Jun tahun ini. |
