Is Mkini a 'news organisation'?

Posted: 05 Oct 2013 10:37 AM PDT

Who's harassing Malaysiakini 'journalists'? Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, our Home Minister?

Journalists have ethics, and so are media players. However, I personally don't see Mkini as a 'media organisation' because they act more like a 'government in a government'. Its so-called journalists (dunno where they came from) were trained to be anti-government.

So, if Umno bans Mkini from covering its events, there must be good tangible reason - Mkini is anti-Umno and anti-Malay-led government, perhaps?

But why are other media organisations are allowed to cover Umno general assembly and party election, including those of Suara Keadilan, Roket and Harakah? Premesh Chandran and Steven Goh should have the answers.

Just take a look at Mkini reportings thus far.

Never had the news portal published anything positive about the BN government, about PM Najib, about the Malays or about any policy introduced to make the country better. All is wrong, all is not right when it comes from the government.

It is alright to support the DAP, PKR and PAS in the Pakatan Rakyat but every that Pakatan does is damn very right. We sometimes read good and comforting reports by pro-opposition newspapers over certain good policies introduced by the government but Mkini is otherwise.

It treats the government as 100 per cent wrong as if Mkini has the right pool of experts and politicians who can lead Putrajaya; and that they are the ones who are always right and perfect. I was told that any good comments about the government will not be published!

A 'media organisation' in Mkini? Not so right. They are more like a propaganda portal for the opposition and certain 'foreign parties' who would like to see Malaysia economic and social stability come to an end.

And now they are telling Zahid to stop harassing their reporters. Nope, its not wrong to ask question but when the matter has been been clearly explained and reiterated, its not wise to provoke him or others for more clarification. Simple language!
Malaysiakini has called on Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to halt his attempts to intimidate journalists from the independent news portal.
Journalists have a fundamental duty to ask questions of public interest, to which ministers have the responsibility to answer, said co-founders Premesh Chandran and Steven Gan in a joint statement today.
The duo described Zahid's behaviour at a press conference yesterday as "conduct unbecoming of a minister".
The minister had launched into a tirade against Malaysiakini for allegedly "spinning" his words and confronted journalist Lawrence Yong after the press conference.
"If the home minister believes that Malaysiakini has misreported his statements, he can always contact us for a correction," said chief executive officer Premesh and editor-in-chief Gan.
"If he feels we are unfair to him, we are always ready to meet him or any other minister to discuss our reportage. To date, we have not received any complaints from him or his office."
Its nice and healthy to have a large number of news portals for the country but whats the point of being a 'news distributor' if what we publish contains more lie and truth?

What is their agenda, actually?
