Posted: 17 Apr 2013 05:42 PM PDT Pakatan states Penang, Selangor and Kedah have removed all important files and secret documents from chief minister and mentri besar office since Tuesday as a 'preparation' should Barisan Nasional runs them down on May 5 general election. Except for Kelantan, staff at the three states were given two days to make the clearance. The directive was simple - hide the important documents and burn or dispose the 'legal binding' ones. Such a move signals the lost of confidence in Pakatan Rakyat's bid to defend the three state governments in the next national poll. In Penang on Tuesday, about 20 party workers were seen carrying out boxes believed to contain such documents from Lim Guan Eng's office in Komtar. A Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang (MPPP) van park at the basement then carried the boxes to an unknown destination. Similar movement were also detected at MPPP and Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Prai (MPSP) and other state government agencies. In Shah Alam on Wednesday, an internal directive was issued to staff at the Mentri Besar Office not to leave any 'sensitive and confidential files' before going to the poll on May 5. Mentri Besar Khalid Ibrahim's officers were also told not to keep any documents that could be used by Barisan Nasional to implicate the state government of wrongdoings should Selangor falls to BN about 17 days from now. However, the attention is more on Lim's Penang state government and his RM6.3 billion tunnel which will link the island to the mainland. The original quotation was about RM4.08 billion. Besides what he claimed as 'typo error' to the costing, the DAP secretary-general too has been accused of awarding the projects to his close friends. The four proposed projects are the 4.2km Gurney Drive-Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu bypass, 4.6km Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu-Bandar Baru Air Hitam bypass, 6.5km Penang-Butterworth Tunnel and a 12km road connecting Tanjung Bungah and Teluk Bahang. Penang Pakatan Rakyat has yet to announce its list of candidates for general election although Selangor and Kedah had done so. Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and Lim are expected to announce on Friday, all 40 candidates for state seats and 13 for parliamentary seats. |
