It has been quite sometime since the Prime Minister indicated that one of the area that the government will develop PR1MA house is in the area of Bandar Tun Razak. However, until now, there is no new development on the project. We share herewith the news report on the PR1MA at Bandar Tun Razak as quoted by Encik Rizalman, Federal Territory Umno Youth chief.
Public complaints in the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency are mounting as its MP, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, has failed to solve the woes of the constituents, said Bandar Tun Razak Umno Youth chief Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar.
He said 18,250 public complaints, mostly related to housing, hawker and basic amenities, were received by Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN) since Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) wrested the seat from the BN in the 2008 general election.
"Our offices, which are open every day, are crowded with residents wanting to air their complaints.
"When we asked why they come to us, they said it is difficult to meet their elected representative or even if they were able to meet, he couldn't solve their problems.
"He gave the excuse that the problems come under the jurisdiction of Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Ministry of Federal Territories and Urban Well-being. So what is the role of the MP then, they asked," Rizalman told Bernama.
He cited housing woes as the main reason why the BN lost the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat, saying there were not enough housing schemes for the poor and the lower income group then.
"But the problems are being addressed by the prime minister and the federal territories and urban well-being minister by building affordable housing schemes in the capital, including Bandar Tun Razak for the poor and the low-income group," he added.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently announced a special funding scheme for the sale of houses under the National Economic Action Council's People Housing Programme (PPR-MTEN) as well as DBKL public housing, which would commence operation on March 1 to help those who want to buy such houses in the capital.
The prime minister said the Cabinet, at its meeting on Jan 18, had agreed to the scheme proposed by the Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Ministry, with funds from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
Rizalman, who is also Federal Territory Umno Youth chief, said Umno Youth and residents welcomed the government's decision to build the 1Malaysia People's Housing or PR1MA houses for urban dwellers earning below RM3,000 a month in Bandar Tun Razak."Umno Youth understands the housing problems faced by young people in the capital. Furthermore, it is very hard to get affordable homes in Bandar Tun Razak.
"Hence, the constituents should not forget the federal government's effort in solving their housing woes by giving the BN the opportunity to recapture the Bandar Tun Razak seat (in the next general election)," he said.
Rizalman claimed BN's forays had borne fruit with 60 per cent of about 90,000 youths in the constituency now behind it, but ironically only about 42,000 of them had registered as voters.
He said that until September last year, 12,000 new voters were registered in the constituency.
Rizalman said the Umno Youth division had lined up 50 social, sports and Islamic religious activities for youths in the constituency this year besides holding celebrations for all festivals with the cooperation of other BN component parties.
Meanwhile, resident Ah Kwang, 35, said various social and sporting programmes organised by the BN in the constituency could help enhance unity with the participation of all communities while hardly any relevant programme was held by the opposition other than political events.
Another resident, M. Yogeswaran, 43, said the BN had carried out many community programmes for the benefit of residents and helped to solve hawker problems while the opposition has failed to live up to expectations.
The Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency covers an area of 3,832 sq km and has 84,000 voters, comprising Malays (52.73 per cent), Chinese (39.47 per cent), Indians (7.17 per cent) and others (0.61 per cent).
The constituency, once a stronghold of the BN, went to the opposition when Khalid beat Datuk Tan Chai Ho of the MCA in the 2008 general election with a majority of 2,515 votes.
The constituency has 22 housing areas, seven mosques, two temples, 17 primary schools, 16 secondary schools and two public institutions of higher learning, namely Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre and an institute of teacher education.
