| TIMSS 2011 : What Happened To Malaysia? Posted: 12 Dec 2012 11:47 PM PST Folks, in assessing worldwide education systems there is something relatively new and big called the TIMSS and PIRLS. These are two internationally recognised methods to evaluate the standing and the effectiveness of a country's education system in teaching mathematics, science and reading proficiency. The TIMSS means Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study. PIRLS means Performance on the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study "The TIMSS is the first global assessment of mathematics and science to provide data about trends over time, measuring achievement in these subjects every four years at the fourth and eighth grades since 1995." "(PIRLS) represents the "gold standard" internationally for reading comprehension at the fourth grade, measuring trends every five years since 2001." "TIMSS and PIRLS are the pre-eminent international assessments monitoring changes in student achievement at regular intervals. TIMSS and PIRLS 2011 represent a landmark event - the first time the two renowned international assessments have been conducted concurrently. In 2011. TIMSS and PIRLS assessed nearly 900,000 students worldwide: TIMSS in 63 countries and 14 benchmarking participants, and PIRLS in 49 countries and nine benchmarking participants." The latest TIMSS and PIRLS results for 2011 have just been released on 11th December 2012. And which are the top performing countries? Here is some news (you can click on the link to read more:
Tops in reading : Singapore, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei. Tops in mathematics : Singapore, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong and Japan Tops in science : Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Korea and Japan This is really, really boring : Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan. Where is Malaysia? I know that Malaysia has taken part in this TIMSS and PIRLS survey before. Here is a Table which lists out some of the results for the TIMSS survey results for 2011. Please look at this Table carefully. Betul-lah you can see the boring names at the Top 5 positions : Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Japan. But we dont see Malaysia anywhere. At the bottom of the two Tables above you can see countries like Botswana, Yemen, Dubai, Morroco and Abu Dhabi. Where is Malaysia? Takkan Malaysia is lower than Botswana and Yemen? Or we did not participate in the survey this time? Tapi dulu kita participate. Pasal apa tahun 2011 kita tak participate? Or did we participate in this study tapi we are below Botswana, Yemen and Abu Dhabi? Folks, just today a 20 year old girl came looking for a job at our shop - an SPM leaver. The vast, huge, biggest majority of our educated workforce are SPM leavers ok. There are hundreds of thousands of SPM leavers and comparatively very, very few university graduates, degree and diploma holders. Let us not lose focus of these numbers ok. I always say that we must also focus on the majority folks ie the hundreds of thousands of SPM leavers. They form the bulk of our workforce and our population. They are the ones who will determine if we become a high income nation or if we remain a country that throws garbage in the streets etc. The girl who came for the interview today had a 'G' for Matematik (Gagal). Science was a very low pass. Bahasa Inggeris was also a very low pass. The only good grades were Bahasa Malaysia and Agama. I am not surprised if we have dropped out of the TIMSS survey. Botswana pun lagi hebat. Mampus kita. |

Well folks - Michael Palmer should be able to join the Parti Keadilan Rakyat. He is well qualified to be at least a Vice President. And if he acquires much, much more experience in undercover work he will qualify to be 'ketua umum'. |

I say kawan, so can they stretch their flexibility a little bit more? What about that 16 year old Chinese jogger who gave a piggy back ride to his 15 year old jogging friend? If you can "take a second look" or change your "religious" rules for Chinese hair salons, what about easing up a little on 16 year old joggers, people who play badminton in the park, boys and girls who may swim in the sea or swimming pool or ride bicycles in the park? What about those two Chinese guys who were video taped in the dark in the car at the airport? When the muka tin sadin fellow saw that video tape of their 'ketua' and that Chinese girl he said 'Lets wait and see what the Police say?" The Police said the video was an original. Not only the Police but two other foreign video labs confirmed that the video was an original and NOT a fake video. The only thing the Police did NOT do was name the main actor in the video (even though they knew who he was because the Police also know the name of the other actor in the video, plus they will most likely have the name of the Chinese girl as well). The Police were being professional - they were acting upon the Police Report that was made. Their task was to determine if the video was true or fake. That was all. They could NOT name the 'pelaku'. But for certain the Police confirmed that the video tape was original. And what did the PAS do? Did they ask that someone should issue a summons to the 'ketua'? No. Instead their president the Nelayan fellow said that video tapes are just 'besi'. Now the PAS says they also have their own "besi" video tape evidence to summon the two Chinese males in that car. So lets get this straight : when there is a clear as daylight video tape showing their ketua as naked as a monkey in bed with a Chinese girl, they say the video is just a piece of "besi". Now when they want to apply their religious laws on non-Muslims they say they have 'video besi' as evidence. For the Chinese hair salons they say they can bend their own laws. They can take a 'second look'. I am not passing moral judgements on anyone here. Chinese girl, piggy back rides, watching airplanes in the dark itu semua lu punya pasal. But can you see the munafikism? You can actually video tape their munafikism. |
| Updated : PKR Dying Slow Death Posted: 12 Dec 2012 08:51 PM PST This picture is taken from The Unspinners Blog. It shows PKR's "Majlis Pelancaran Jentera PRU sukarelawan PR" and kursus PRU at Kuala Langat. This kursus PRU was themed "Kuasai Putrajaya Selamatkan Negara" and was officiated by the now increasingly infamous YB Zuraidah Kamaruddin (Ahli Parlimen Ampang/Ketua Wanita PKR Pusat). Well all the flags are flying : DAP, PKR and PAS. You can see for yourselves the number of empty chairs in the dewan. There are only about 50 people attending. Those three guys at the back are reading the newspaper. They may have hired the only available dewan in town, but surely they did not have to hire so many chairs. I have a suggestion for the PKR - they should hire a smaller dewan. Then it will look like full attendance. Here is an update folks. This picture of the same event above is taken from dinturtle's blog. Thank you Din. The PKR folks have been circulating the following 'close-up' picture of the same event above but taken from the front. Obviously to make it appear that there was full attendance. The "dewan" is actually the open area in some apartments or flats. This is worse. People living in the apartments plus members of the public have not turned up in any number. You only see the PAS guys wearing the white kopiah. The PAS is aware more than ever that the PKR now depends on their muscle to survive. No PAS support no PKR. |
